Virginia's Attorney General Falsely Claims Abortion Drug is Safe—Here Are the Facts
Restoration of America Foundation's research proves the opposite.
Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones posted on social media that the abortion drug "Mifepristone is safe and effective"— a "fact" he claims is supported by research. He's correct that it's effective in one thing: over 640,000 babies were killed in 2023 by the drug. But "safe?" Jones is dead wrong.
Mifepristone will put one in 10 women in the emergency room or even their grave. We know because our colleagues at Restoration of America Foundation pulled together insurance claims data that Planned Parenthood and radical Democrats like Jones won't tell you. The abortion drug is why abortion is spiking nationwide—and why so many women are suffering health effects that the legacy media refuses to cover.
Also worth mentioning: Jones was made famous last year for making threatening text messages against his political opponent, Todd Gilbert, and wishing death upon Gilbert's young children. He's hardly the man who should be the spokesperson for safety.
How We Got Here
- Democrats continue to wrongly declare that abortion drugs are safe, with no risks for the women taking them. That's either ignorance or deliberate lying because the research proves otherwise.
- In January 2023, the FDA permanently lifted a ban requiring patients to obtain abortion drugs in person under a doctor's supervision. That decision is currently being challenged in court.
- Louisiana is battling to require mifepristone to be dispensed in person—as was the law for 20 years before the Biden administration changed it—but the drug manufacturer and abortion industry are challenging the state in court. Democrat state attorney generals, like Jay Jones, are siding with the abortion industry, not the mothers and babies being harmed.
Why it Matters
- The pill is dangerous to the mothers who ingest it. Restoration of America Foundation's in-depth research exposed the dangers of the abortion drug. Serious adverse events for women were nearly 11 percent—22 times higher than the FDA admits. Women are dying. Multiple healthy, young girls have died from mifepristone complications.
- Mifepristone is spiking abortion to 14-year highs even in states where it's illegal to kill an unborn child. The Supreme Court's 2022 Dobbs decision may have returned abortion law to the states, but it didn't halt abortion access—because abortionists continue to mail abortion pills illegally through the mail. Coerced and forced abortions further victimize young women across the nation. One incident happened in Illinois when "a suspect administered abortion inducing drugs to the victim without her knowledge or consent."
- Trump has the power to end this carnage. With one executive order, the president can restore pre-Biden safeguards and halt the illegal mailing of abortion pills in the mail. With one change at the FDA, which regulates the drug, mifepristone can be pulled from market until its health effects can be further studied.
What Can I Do?
Don't believe the lies spread by politicians like Jay Jones who are beholden to Planned Parenthood and big pharma. Do the research for yourself—then ask President Trump to take action that will save life.
The same people advocating for easy access to abortion pills through the mail are also advocating for late-term abortions. God will provide the ultimate judgement, but we must do our part to protect the innocent.
