North Carolina Rep. Don Davis Was Probably the ‘Weird Kid’ at Air Force Academy

“Crazy D,” the Campus Radical, mentions no friends or family, just Malcom X and Sharia Law in yearbook rant.

When given a condensed space to sum up who you are for the history books, you choose each word carefully and detail only the most important things. For U.S. Rep. Don Davis, that was a rant about black victimhood and a quote from the Quran promoting Sharia Law, written in his 1994 U.S. Air Force Academy senior yearbook.

Davis, 55, seeks a third term in North Carolina’s First Congressional District—he doesn’t live there; he can’t register to vote there; he can’t even vote for himself. His challenger is Republican Laurie Buckhout.

His Own Words

The yearbook has the graduating seniors listed by group, using numbered call signs like Tiger 10, Rebel 11, Dirty Dozen 12, and Davis’s group, Campus Radicals 39. Each student has a short senior message, and they are all pretty similar. “I want to thank my family for their support…” or “I want to thank God for helping me when no one else could.” Many messages mentioned the great friends they made and will soon miss.

Davis took an entirely different direction, thanking no one and acknowledging zero friendships. Perhaps he didn’t have any.

“Will we ever see justice for all Africans and descendants of Africa in my time?” Davis, 23 at the time, wrote. “Or will this be another graduation into the cruelties of human kind?”

Davis managed to hold on to his victim complex while graduating from one of the most prestigious academies in the land.

“‘We must be true soldiers by getting in it and eliminating the PARADIGM and modern lynching.’ Minister Shabazz believed that was our obligation ‘BAMN’,” Davis wrote.

Prince X

Davis listed two nicknames at the top of his bio: Prince X and Crazy D. Princes are the sons of kings. Perhaps he considered himself the son of Malcolm X, whom he admired.

“Minister Shabazz” refers to Malcolm X who originally changed his last name from “Little,” a name given to his ancestors by slave owners. After traveling to Mecca, Malcolm X converted to Sunni Muslim and changed his name to El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz.

BAMN means, “by any means necessary,” a phrase Malcolm X was known to use. It meant the black community should use any method, including violence, to protect themselves and assert their freedom.

Davis then slightly misquotes black civil rights activist Mary McLeod Bethune’s last will and testament, saying, “Death should neither alarm or frighten us either.”

Eliminate the paradigm; modern lynching; by any means necessary; not afraid to die—today Davis’s yearbook bio reads like the red flag of a radicalized lone wolf ready to do some damage.

Davis ends his yearbook comments with a quote from the Quran, “Aaakhira (Sic) (HQ 45:18)” that reads, “Now We have set you [O Muhammad] on the clear way of faith. So follow it, and do not follow the desires of those who do not know the truth.”

The “way of faith” here is Sharia Law. Davis advocated following Sharia.

But read on. If Davis believes the above, he surely also believes the next lines in verses 19-21:

They [who do not know the truth] certainly can be of no benefit to you against Allah whatsoever. Surely the wrongdoers are patrons of each other, whereas Allah is the Patron of the righteous. This Quran is an insight for humanity—a guide and mercy for people of sure faith. Or do those who commit evil deeds simply think that we will make them equal—in their life and after their death—to those who believe and do good? How wrong is their judgment!

Christians, Jews, and nonbelievers alike are not equal to Muslims, according to the passage.

North Carolina District One voters must ask themselves how comfortable they are being led by a man who, after years in office, still won’t live in their district, and who apparently thinks less of them. The mercy described in the Quran is only for people “of sure faith.”

That’s un-American and scary because it smacks of the intolerance the Left always squawks about.

Our constitutional freedom of religion springs from a Christian foundation that recognizes all people are created equal. We should not elect leaders who view some as more equal than others.
