If Davis doesn’t know what he thinks, how can voters know what to expect?

U.S. Rep. Don Davis wants a third term in Congress, and the good news for voters in North Carolina’s First Congressional District is: No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, Democrat Davis agrees with you. Sometimes.

Want Congress to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act requiring voter ID? So does Davis. He voted for it in July 2024.

Hate the SAVE Act and want Congress to defeat it? Davis too! He voted against it in April 2025.

Davis keeps things spicy. He keeps voters guessing about where he might land on any given topic—even when the difference between right and wrong is obvious.

As a member of the North Carolina Senate back in 2019, Davis voted for the state’s version of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. The act would have protected babies who survived an attempted abortion. It required medical treatment for babies born alive and defined killing a born baby as murder.

Obviously, he voted for this righteous act. Who could oppose saving the life of an innocent baby who has escaped an abortionist’s deadly grasp?

Davis could. In a ghoulish flip-flop, when Davis got to Congress, he voted against the similar federal Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act twice, once in 2023 and again in 2025.

Voters who evaluated Davis as a candidate based on his 2019 vote learned a hard lesson: on an issue as far apart as life and death, Davis could go either way.

That made it easier to believe when Davis used his congressional vote to support House Resolution 461 in June 2023. This resolution condemned using public elementary and secondary school facilities to shelter illegal immigrants. A month later, Davis failed to vote on H.R. 3941, the Schools Not Shelters Act.

Davis apparently has no idea what he thinks or who he is. He wets his finger, checks the direction of political winds, and drifts wherever the last person told him to go.

Good leaders live true to their values. They know what they stand for, how they came to these values, and consistently apply them. Leaders with a fixed moral compass will vote the same every time. For example, it is always wrong and never negotiable to kill a baby.

How do we know? It depends on the origins of your values—generally, a mix of life experiences and education.

The Bible is clear: Thou shalt not kill.

Bible not the core of your values? How about our society’s founding documents? The Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution are clear too. Together, both protect and defend the basic unalienable rights given to us by our creator, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Many people feel their values in their guts, which can be wrong sometimes. But for most, their guts say killing a baby that survived an abortion is wrong.

When voters consider candidates, they must examine their values. And that leads us back to Davis. There is no flipping way he should remain in office.

It’s not that you can’t trust Davis—although you can’t. The issue is, what is wrong with him? How can any person research these issues and conclude that either way may be the correct answer? The United States needs to elect leaders who understand what they believe and can translate their values—ideally, ones that match the voters—into votes.
