Democrat's Pitch to Voters: You're Too Racist to Elect Anyone But an Old White Guy Like Me for Gov

Dear voters: Don't let the career bureaucrat who thinks Wisconsinites are dumb, racist, cash machines represent you in Madison.

Trailing Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial candidate Joel Brennan thinks he is special because, although he is an old white dude, he has been able to look past race and gender in his career, so he knows it can be done. 

"I have in the course of my life been able to do work that provides opportunity for a whole host of people, and like, that is what I bring to this," Brennan said in a now notorious April recording of the Dr. Kristin Lyerly podcast.

A candidate who can work with black, brown, and white people—that's a pretty low bar for what Brennan brings. 

What about Wisconsin voters? Can they look past race? 

No, not yet—or so it's implied. Unlike Brennan, apparently plenty of Wisconsin voters are, in his eyes, racist and misogynistic Neanderthals. 

Content of Character Not Considered

In his famous I Have a Dream speech, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dreamed of an America where his children could live in a nation, "where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." Leftists desperately cling to racism as a tool to divide and conquer the public. They conjure up victims (minorities) and villains (conservatives) so they can pretend to rescue the "oppressed" instead of writing useful policies to benefit everyone. 

In the podcast, Lyerly set Brennan up with a loaded question. 

"Wisconsin has never not elected a white guy to serve as governor, and you are the only white guy in this Democratic primary field. Do you think that's an asset, a liability, or something that we're just not supposed to talk about?"

The smart move would have been to push back, disagree with the premise of the question, and refuse to buy in to identity politics. But it was irresistible. Democrats love to separate people into groups and assign them with social qualities—which seems racist and misogynistic. 

"I hope we get to a point in Wisconsin, in America—and maybe this is a step towards it—where we actually can just choose, and it can be based on vision, based on how hard you work, based on qualifications. I don't think we're there yet. And I think we need advocates who look like every part of what makes Wisconsin rich, you know," Brennan said. "I don't look like everybody else in this race. I think that's a richness that Wisconsin has to provide. And I'd like to think that's what I would be, and that's what I would demonstrate as governor."

Look at how much more evolved Brennan is than you, dear Wisconsin voter. Just elect him as your leader and he will show by example how to accept people who don't look like you. For example, with Brennan lighting the way, you too can learn how to deal with women. Perhaps you've never met one, but Brennan is really good with girls. 

"I grew up with seven sisters. If I haven't been affected by females in my life—my wife and my daughter are right there alongside me every day. I'd like to think that the work that I have done has been about expanding exposure." 

He talked about creating all-girls robotics and electronics camps at Milwaukee's Discovery World to get more girls interested in summer STEM programs.

"If we let the market decide on our own, it would be 18 boys and two girls, probably. Like that's what we would do back in 2010, 2011." One wonders how many boys were turned away. Why not ignore gender and just make it first-come-first-served until the camp registration fills up? After all, that's how life works. 

Banking on Traffic Tickets

Brennan was previously the director at Discovery World science museum and aquarium in Milwaukee. More recently he was president of the Greater Milwaukee Committee (GMC), a civic group of business leaders, professionals, labor, education and philanthropy, and nonprofit community development, that often tries to steer state and local politics. Brennan was Secretary of the Department of Administration in Gov. Tony Evers' administration 2019–2021, yet Evers did not endorse Brennan in his run for governor. 

He has lots of expensive ideas with no empathy for the taxpayer on a fixed income, which is why Brennan has proudly advocated for tax increases. 

Using the weight of the GMC, he called for the state to give a fat chunk of Wisconsin's 2022 $5.5 billion budget surplus to K-12 education instead of back to taxpayers. It is maddening to know your money was taken in tax just to sit in the state's bank doing nothing useful. If they don't need it, give it back. 

On behalf of GMC, Brennan advocated in 2023 to increase the Milwaukee sales tax, and to increase fees for sanitation and snow removal, to sell carbon credits and advertising on city trash cans, and add traffic cameras to generate more tickets for drivers and more money for the city. A GMC report advised Milwaukee officials that the city could save money by reducing health services, road maintenance and bridge operation and maintenance, Brennan's GMC report said. 

Is that the kind of world you want to live in? Pay more taxes, to fund the cameras the government needs to catch you driving at the speed of traffic flow, so they can mail you a ticket with a penalty fee, while they don't fix the potholes this year. 

In this way, Brennan looks exactly like the other Democrat candidates vying for the top vote in Wisconsin's August 11 primary. He won't say it, but Brennan's policies tell us he is a socialist.

At least some of the other candidates are transparent about who they are. Front runner Francesca Hong says up front that she is a socialist and has specific policy goals. Brennan leans more on his resume than ideas for the future leaving us nothing but his troubling track record to evaluate him for the job as Wisconsin's governor. 

Brennan's polling numbers have been pathetic, because Wisconsin voters are intelligent. They have no interest in an old white guy who looks down on them until he needs a bit more of their money in taxes. Wisconsinites are good people who don't consider race or sex a criteria for friendship or achievement, and recoil when someone suggests the opposite. You can't lead people you don't respect.
