Truax: Pro-Life Movement Has 'Golden Moment' to Save Lives
The Restoration of America founder headlined Ohio's March for Life with a call for an abortion pill reckoning.
Hope mixed with a little rain.
It's what pro-life Americans have come to expect. And at the Ohio March for Life this past Friday, they got plenty of both. But as keynote speaker and Restoration of America Founder and CEO Doug Truax addressed the throngs of poncho-clad marchers in Columbus, he chose to put the emphasis on hope.
"We need some hope right now, don’t we?" Truax said in his prepared remarks. "It has been a tough couple years."
The Army veteran recalled how pro-lifers rejoiced when the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its 2022 Dobbs decision overturning the federal "right" to abortion. "But in the days and weeks and months that followed, we've had nearly as much bad news as good news."
In Ohio, the bad news includes a new constitutional amendment that allows abortion up until birth whenever an abortionist decides there’s a "health" risk.
Spoiler alert: pregnancy is always a health risk.
But Truax noted that there is another threat endangering innocent lives nationwide like never before: the abortion pill.
OHIO... nothing can stop you! Not even the rain. Today, families from across the state filled the streets of Columbus for the Ohio March for Life alongside our friends at @CCVPolicy One of our favorite parts of the day was seeing SO many kids and families marching together with their homemade signs, and boldly showing up for life! Chemical abortion accounted for about 65 percent of all abortions within the formal health care system—or more than 687,000 abortions—in 2023, according to the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute. Yet, the abortion pill, Truax stressed, is "not just killing babies—it’s hurting mothers." A 2025 Restoration of America Foundation (ROAF) study found that 10.9 percent of drug-induced abortions result in at least one severe adverse health event for the mother, ranging from sepsis and bacterial infections to hemorrhage, uterine rupture, or even death. And the risk is likely even higher now that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has relaxed its restrictions on the abortion drug mifepristone.
Under the Biden administration, the FDA lifted its last meaningful safeguard for mifepristone's use: the in-person dispensing requirement. Now, just about anyone can easily order the drug online without even consulting a physician—even though it's illegal.
"You cannot put abortion drugs in the mail, end of story," Truax said, pointing to ROAF's Law of the Land report on enforcing the 1873 Comstock Act released last week.
Congress, under Comstock, banned the mailing of "every article or thing designed, adapted, or intended for producing abortion." A century later, the Supreme Court effectively rendered the law unenforceable by manufacturing a "right" to abortion in Roe v. Wade. Although the nation's top court overturned that ruling in 2022, federal authorities have yet to resume enforcing Comstock. The ROAF report calls upon President Donald Trump’s administration to rectify the situation.
Truax echoed that call.
"We now have 20 state attorneys general who've promised to enforce the law. Their leadership is an inspiration," he said, referencing a 2023 letter signed by a coalition of attorneys general. "But states alone can't end this evil. The federal government needs to act—and the sad truth is that no one in power takes this law seriously."
"You may not have heard this before, but it IS illegal to mail the abortion pill. I repeat, it is ILLEGAL to mail the abortion pill. We must start enforcing this law." - Doug Truax, Founder of Restoration of America Our keynote speaker is bringing the truth this morning at the Ohio March for Life. It’s an injustice that "cannot stand," Truax added. "We have a moral opportunity—and a legal obligation—to roll back the abortion pill. And if the leaders we have won't do it today, then we should elect better leaders tomorrow."
Truax urged the crowd to do just that next month on Election Day and start holding political candidates accountable for not only their words but also their actions—or lack thereof—concerning abortion. And that includes any future presidential hopefuls.
"If our would-be leaders won't uphold the law, they do not belong in the Oval Office," he said.
Despite the less-than-ideal circumstances, Truax stressed that the American political climate has never held more promise for the pro-life movement than it does right now.
"The truth is, we have been given a glorious chance to roll back abortion like never before," he said.
Pro-life state laws and federal funding restrictions, combined with the abortion pill’s increased availability, have driven down traffic to abortion clinics in recent years. Noting this, Truax pointed out that enforcing the Comstock Act would effectively take abortion “off the table” in many communities across the country.
Closing his remarks with a call to action, Truax urged the crowd to take back the momentum in the fight for life.
"Let's vow, today, to make the most of this golden moment," he said. "Let's call on our leaders to uphold the law and save innocent lives. And together, let us refuse to rest or relent until every mother is safe and every baby is born—in Ohio and all across America."
