Jay Jones Dreams of Disarming Law-Abiding Virginians While Playing 'Big Brother'
Democrat Attorney General candidate Jay Jones has a long history of supporting the most tyrannical gun control policies that will undoubtedly leave Virginians defenseless.
Most Virginians may not know Democrat Attorney General candidate Jay Jones, but his deep hostility toward the Second Amendment—and his relentless push to dismantle it—deserves serious scrutiny.
The somewhat sleepy candidate, corporate lawyer, and former Virginia delegate embodies the authoritarian Left’s extreme agenda when it comes to constitutional overreach—including red flag laws, magazine capacity limits, extended waiting periods, purchase restrictions, ghost gun bans, gun-free zones, and intrusive storage mandates. But Jones pushes the needle even further, insisting there should be executive action (read: loopholes) to enforce gun control when Republicans block unconstitutional laws.
"There is a third pillar to support effective gun safety efforts: the need for executive officials to act on their own. When the Governor stifles gun violence prevention and the agencies lack policies to implement, it becomes the responsibility of other executive officials to act," said Jones.
He’s the walking embodiment of the “big brother” ideology—and Virginians should remember his name.

Leaving Virginians Defenseless
Every gun control measure backed by Jones places unnecessary burdens on law-abiding citizens and undermines the fundamental right to self-defense and resistance against tyranny.
He has a long track record of prioritizing virtue-signaling policies over commonsense reforms that would help Virginians live in safer communities. His support for magazine capacity limits and extended waiting periods already hinders the ability of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves—but his so-called “sensitive area” firearm restrictions go even further, directly jeopardizing public safety by disarming people where they truly need protection.
In 2021, Jones voted to establish gun-free zones on school property. This policy devalues the response of law-abiding citizens and absurdly assumes criminals will obey a sign.
Allowing teachers to carry firearms adds a critical layer of protection for students. The FBI reports most active shooter events, including mass shootings, end within five minutes. But police response often takes between 5 and 10 minutes—or even more than 20 minutes in rural areas.
In those crucial moments, armed staff could save lives.
That same year, Jones voted to prohibit the possession of firearms within 40 feet of a polling place or Electoral Board meeting. And in 2020, he voted to authorize localities to ban firearms at public events.
Jones believes these polices will curb "gun violence." Unfortunately, they only disarm law-abiding citizens and create vulnerable spaces ripe for abuse. So long as Virginians continue to elect Democrat lawmakers, they will suffer under the repeated failures of so-called “gun control.”
Red Flag Laws
Jones backs a wide range of gun control measures in Virginia—but the most insidious are red flag laws.
These laws allow civil courts to issue warrants for the seizure of all firearms and ammunition owned or possessed by a respondent—without any proof of wrongdoing. The severe overreach permitted under these laws has led many to call them a "modern-day witch hunt."
In theory, red flag laws are well-intentioned—they aim to disarm "dangerous" individuals—but in practice, they open the door to endless constitutional violations and allow almost anyone to petition the state to take away your rights.
"The problem with [red flag laws] is that you’re trying to predict the future, and you just can’t do that. We don’t live in a society where we punish people based on actions they may take at some unknown point in time, if ever," Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) executive director Adam Kraut told Restoration News.

A Blue Virginia
Jay Jones shares many of his views with Democrat gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger—and both have made it clear that gun control will take center stage.
Both candidates have criticized Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) for defending the Second Amendment and have made clear they intend to reverse course. Jones supports executive action to bypass the legislature, while Spanberger has stood hand-in-hand with the gun control lobby throughout her career.
If elected, their war on gun owners will be no surprise.
If law-abiding Virginians allow a blue wave to sweep across the state, nearly every firearm restriction enacted in states like California, Illinois, and Wisconsin will be pushed onto Virginia’s main stage—and it’s undeniable the associated crime waves those states face will follow close behind.
For the past four years, Gov. Youngkin has served as a firewall against the radical Left's relentless assault on the Second Amendment—vetoing a staggering 54 gun control bills designed to strip law-abiding Virginians of their rights.
Now, more than ever, it is critical to elect pro-Virginia leaders like Lt. Gov. Winsome-Earle Sears and Attorney General Jason Miyares—defenders of the Constitution who will uphold the rule of law and protect your rights.
