Abigail Spanberger Will Spell the End of Gun Rights for Virginians
Virginia gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger minces no words when it comes to her beliefs about the second Amendment. If elected, Virginia gun owners will suffer under the thumb of unconstitutional gun control measures for years.
Former Virginia Rep. and gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger (D) has made her stance on gun control clear—and it's bad news for gun owners.
In January, the former congresswoman attended a Moms Demand Action rally at Capitol Square in Richmond, calling for "gun violence prevention" measures to "save the lives of kids." This is run-of-the-mill rhetoric for the anti-gun lobby, and recent polling shows that fear-mongering tactics have worn thin with many Americans—but still the Left persists.
Spanberger’s call to action is unsurprising given her history of supporting and sponsoring strict gun control measures, including red flag laws, so-called AR-15 bans, and expanded background checks. She even voted for the Biden-backed Bipartisan Safer Communities Act in 2021, a law that opened the door for red flag laws under the guise of "mental health" funding.
Spanberger didn’t leave her agenda to the imagination, telling rally attendees, "Now I’m running for governor, and I will say this: as governor of this great commonwealth, I will sign commonsense gun violence prevention bills."
The warning signs are clear—if elected, Spanberger's administration will impose stricter gun restrictions in Virginia.

Spanberger has already criticized Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) for vetoing what she described as "bipartisan legislation that would have made progress." But don't be mistaken, the legislation aimed directly at the Second Amendment and was by no means "bipartisan."
Throughout his term, Gov. Youngkin has consistently pushed back against the anti-gun agenda, vetoing numerous Democrat bills that threatened to reshape Virginia's gun laws to resemble California's. Among these was a proposed ban on so-called assault weapons—a measure Spanberger has already signaled she would support.
"I swore an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitution of Virginia, and that absolutely includes protecting the right of law-abiding Virginians to keep and bear arms," said Gov. Youngkin.
The tide on gun control is shifting nationwide, with many states rolling back restrictive laws and President Donald Trump continuing to uphold his promise to fight gun control at the federal level. However, Virginia gun owners face a challenging situation.
If Abigail Spanberger is elected governor, Virginians could find themselves under a leftist administration that shows little regard for the Second Amendment. The numerous gun control bill blocked by Gov. Youngkin will become a reality, and the legislation will restrict Virginians’ rights to bear arms for years to come.
We cannot allow the great commonwealth to be regressed into a California-style failed state.
