Gun Owners, Here's What Virginia Would Look Like If Dem Abigail Spanberger Was Governor
Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin has vetoed over 54 bills that would've created the California-style anti-gun laws Spanberger supports.
Virginians have enjoyed a four-year reprieve from Democrats' assault on gun rights, thanks to Republicans Glenn Youngkin and Winsome Sears. But the winner of the upcoming governor's race in November will decide the fate of gun rights in our commonwealth—and gun owners should be very afraid of Abigail Spanberger's dark vision of the future.
In Congress, Spanberger pushed some of the radical Left's worst gun control laws, just as Democrats have pushed for unconstitutional gun restrictions in the General Assembly. The only reason those bills didn't become law is Glenn Youngkin's veto pen.
"Now I’m running for governor, and I will say this: as governor of this great commonwealth, I will sign commonsense gun violence prevention bills," Spanberger declared. Spanberger also signaled at a Mom's Demand Action rally in January that she is eager to enforce new gun control restrictions, saying Virginia needs "gun violence prevention" measures to "save the lives of kids."
So what would that look like in practice?

What If the Roles Where Flipped?
Democrats currently control both the House and Senate in Virginia, making Gov. Youngkin the last line of defense for gun owners. If Democrats maintain control of the House after the 2025 election, gun owners should pray for Winsome Sears' veto pen.
Abigail Spanberger’s allegiance to the anti-gun lobby and her clear opposition to the Second Amendment are well-documented. If Republicans fail to flip the House red or push Sears over the gubernatorial finish line, Spanberger will greenlight the Left’s most extreme gun control measures.
In March 2025, Gov. Youngkin vetoed 24 anti-gun bills that would have severely restricted nearly every right protected under the Second Amendment. The previous year, he vetoed 30 similar bills. If Democrats secure a governing trifecta, these laws will all be reintroduced, and the Second Amendment could be effectively dismantled.
In a hypothetical scenario where Spanberger is already governor, all 54 gun control bills would be law.
Without Youngkin’s veto, Democrats would have already banned so-called "assault weapons" and certain large-capacity magazines (HB 1607) and outlawed hair triggers, binary triggers, and various other modifications used in competitive and professional shooting (HB 1660).
Only simple bolt action and single fire rifles would be left on the shelves.
Any visitors who entered into Virginia would not be able to conceal carry if they are licensed in states that have less restrictive gun laws (HB 1797)—even if they could carry, sensitive location restrictions would make concealed carry almost impossible outside of one's own home (HB 1977).
The expanded sensitive locations would also include any hospital or mental health facility.
Anyone labeled a "prohibited person" or placed on protective order would not be able to transfer firearms to anyone under 21 or anyone residing in the same household (HB 1960). For example, an individual deemed a threat under a red flag law, or someone recently convicted of a domestic violence offence, could not transfer their firearms to their spouse or any family if they lived under the same roof.
Democrats additionally pushed legislation that would raise the minimum purchase age for all firearms, including long guns, to 21 (SB 848) banned the public carry of "assault weapons" (SB 880), and expanded the waiting period for receiving a firearm after purchase by five days (HB 2631).
Virginia Democrats even attempted to pass legislation that would allow firearm manufacturers to be sued for simply selling a firearm to an individual who later used said firearm to commit a crime (SB 1450).
Implementing these restrictive gun control laws—had Youngkin not vetoed the legislation—would've fallen to a state-controlled office known as a "violence intervention and prevention" center (HB 1736). A similar office was established federally under the Biden administration, but President Donald Trump abolished the office due to concerns it was a policy backdoor for the gun control lobby.
"I swore an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitution of Virginia, and that absolutely includes protecting the right of law-abiding Virginians to keep and bear arms," said Gov. Youngkin.
The Left is waging a full-blown war against the Second Amendment, and Virginia is fully in the crosshairs come November. Youngkin has protected gun owners and prevented a leftist trifecta, but everything could change if Republicans fail to switch at least three house seats and vote to elect Winsome Sears to succeed him in November.

Spanberger is a Serious Threat
Spanberger wants voters to believe her goal is to eliminate all forms of "gun violence," but it’s crucial to understand the real impact of her policy preferences.
The Second Amendment guarantees the individual right to bear arms for all law-abiding citizens with minimal to no restrictions. However, Spanberger’s policies treat firearms as the problem, disregarding the ability of responsible citizens to prevent crime and defend themselves.
In Spanberger’s Virginia, criminals would roam free while law-abiding citizens remain defenseless in so-called gun-free zones—all because leftist lawmakers believe signs are a better deterrent than armed, honorable citizens.
Gun owners could be dragged into civil court without cause, and their Second Amendment rights could be stripped away by unelected bureaucrats—all based on nothing more than an accusation from a disgruntled neighbor or vengeful ex-lover.
This is the terrifying reality of red flag laws, which Spanberger strongly supports.
In fact, in Congress she voted for the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2022, a companion bill to the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which funneled $750 million into advancing red flag laws nationwide.
Under Spanberger’s leadership, high-capacity magazines would be banned, and firearms historically used for home defense could be restricted to just a single bullet. Anyone under 21 would be barred from purchasing a firearm, concealed carry would be effectively outlawed across the state, and firearm prices would skyrocket due to relentless legal attacks on gun manufacturers.
Virginia gun owners cannot afford to elect Abigail Spanberger this November.
