Gov. Evers Radical Gun Control Policies Leave Wisconsinites Defenseless
Democratic Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers supports the most radical forms of gun control that leave law-baying Americans completely defenseless.
Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D) supports the most "progressive" gun control measures in the nation and has waged a calculated war on the Second Amendment for years.
Evers has relentlessly pushed for universal background checks, red-flag laws that bypass due process, 48-hour waiting periods, so-called "assault rifle" bans, magazine capacity regulations, and bans on "ghost guns." Each gun control policy poses a serious threat to gun owners, but implemented together create a framework that allows the state to systematically destroy the Second Amendment—turning citizens into subjects.
Gov. Evers toes the line when it comes to leftist firearm policy, but he also pushes the needle through executive actions. In 2024, he followed former President Joe Biden's lead and established a statewide office of gun violence prevention which sucked up over $10 million in taxpayer dollars.

Disarming Citizens and Emboldening Criminals
Gun violence prevention offices, imposed through executive action, allow anti-gun lawmakers to bypass the legislature and quietly advance gun control under the guise of "public health." The sneaky loophole erodes the checks and balances process and allows lawmakers to funnel taxpayer money into what are simply activist programs in disguise.
Evers envisions Wisconsin as a gun-free state, but he's also weaponized his veto pen to go on the defensive and block numerous common sense firearm bills sponsored by Republicans.
Evers has blocked legislation that would have allowed concealed-carry permit holders to keep firearms in their vehicles while dropping off or picking up children at schools (AB 495), authorized non-residents with concealed-carry permits from any state to carry in Wisconsin (AB 518), and enabled school officials to carry concealed arms in schools.
Evers also blocked legislation that would have designated Wisconsin a “gun sanctuary” state (AB 293).
At every turn Evers is supporting policies that fight "gun violence" while stripping away the rights of law-abiding citizens. To no surprise, crime has skyrocketed in the Badger state.
Gun control policies do nothing but empower criminals—and the consequences are plain to see. Yet “progressive” politicians continue to push these laws, disarming responsible citizens while criminals ignore the rules and carry on undeterred.
The problem is only made worse by soft-on-crime policies that excuse and enable repeat offenders, fueling a dangerous and avoidable cycle.
Gov. Evers has championed numerous "criminal justice" reforms during his term, and the data shows Wisconsinites now face the threat of a crime wave. Between 2019 and 2023, Wisconsin's crime rate increased by a staggering 14 percent. Murder increased by 43 percent, grand theft auto increased by 27 percent, simple assault increased by 14 percent, and aggravated assault increased by 6 percent.
Instead of cracking down on the criminals Evers expanded "earned release" and fought against strict sentencing. As a result, more than 2,000 inmates returned to the streets early. Among those released were individuals convicted of violent crimes—including armed robbery and felony firearm possession.
Approximately 40 percent of the criminals were rearrested within two years, and at least 274 of them were convicted murderers or attempted murderers, according to Wisconsin Parole Commission data.
By Definition, Criminals Don’t Follow the Law
Gov. Evers has stripped the rights of law-abiding citizens while incentivizing criminals to continue their malevolent ways.
In June 2025, two veteran police officers were tragically gunned down by a serial criminal who managed to evade jail thanks to Gov. Evers's soft-on crime-policies. Instead of condemning the action that showed criminals do not follow gun control laws, Evers used the tragedy to champion "gun violence" prevention.
"Kathy and I are praying for the full recoveries of the two officers injured in this senseless act of gun violence, and we are thinking of the entire Milwaukee Police Department today," he said on X.
The failure of gun control is not limited to Wisconsin. Over the July 4th weekend, 4 were killed and 19 were injured during a shootout that involved automatic weapons in Chicago. The city is a bastion of gun control and Illinois is rated top three for gun violence prevention by gun control advocacy group Everytown.

Despite these laws, criminals still roam the streets with automatic weapons while law-abiding citizens are left unarmed.
Wisconsinites need to vote for lawmakers that follow the Constitution, safeguard the individual right to self defense, and crack down on repeat offenders. As long as "progressive" politicians pull the strings, the badger state will continue to suffer from the Evers crime wave.
