Restoration Responds: The Firearm Data Biden Didn't Want You to See

The CDC restored a once deleted firearm statistic that shows millions of Americans use firearms for self-defense every year.

For years, Americans have been force-fed the mainstream narrative that firearms are not widely used for self-defense. Now, the "we told you so" moment has presented itself as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has reposted its statistic on defensive firearm uses, showing up to 2.5 million cases per year.

"I can see as we dig down more into the data, and figure out how exactly they're coming up with these numbers, that that number will skyrocket further," said Chris McNutt with Texas Gun Rights.

McNutt believes the number is even higher than 2.5 million.

So, What Happened?

To no one's surprise, the 2.5 million statistic quietly disappeared from the CDC website under the Biden administration. Emails uncovered by The Reload revealed that the number quietly disappeared after gun control advocacy groups began to meet with the CDC.

"[T]hat 2.5 Million number needs to be killed, buried, dug up, killed again and buried again," Mark Bryant, one of the attendees, wrote to CDC officials after their meeting. "It is highly misleading, is used out of context and I honestly believe it has zero value – even as an outlier point in honest DGU discussions."

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) playing house with the Biden administration should come as no shock. After all, former President Joe Biden created the first White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention—a full-blown gun control advocacy arm staffed by former gun control advocacy personnel.

Why it Matters

The Left is hell-bent on convincing Americans that firearms are a net negative for the country. For decades, they have waged an endless war on every form of firearm—even as they struggled to define a so-called “assault rifle.”

Through advocacy programs and mainstream media, they tried to convince Americans that we no longer need guns. But statistics do not lie.

This is the data the anti-gun lobby ignores:

  • FBI statistics show that lawful gun owners stop over 36 percent of all active shooter incidents. If we remove "gun free" zones from the dataset, the number rises to over 52 percent.
  • FBI stats show that only seven percent of crimes committed with a firearm involved legally purchased guns. Half of all offenders had stolen the firearm, while 43 percent had purchased it from underground or black-market vendors.
  • The FBI reports that most active threat events—including mass shootings—are over within five minutes. Yet it takes law enforcement between five and 10 minutes (at best) to respond to a shooting. The situation is even more dire for rural schools that could be left stranded for over 20 minutes waiting for police response.

Zooming Out

The CDC's number—2.5 million—should not come as a surprise.

We often see good samaritans lawfully using firearms to protect themselves and others. The updated number is just one more Second Amendment victory and another log on the fire of constitutional restoration.

One of the most recent examples of a "good guy with a gun" is Jordan Salinas. Salinas pinned down the 24-year-old gunman during a shooting at an In-N-Out restaurant in Idaho.

Salinas saved countless lives when he chose to set aside his own self-preservation for the sake of others. Of course, it was all made possible because he was able to exercise his Second Amendment right.

The Takeaway

The right to life is fundamental to American freedom—and so is the right to defend your life. The media and the left will never stop twisting the truth. Law-abiding Americans must set the record straight.
