Gun Control Groups Silent as Crime Rate Falls to 90 Year Record Low

We keep hearing guns lead to violence, but where are the statistics?

Second Amendment restoration is on a hot streak, and violent crime is at a record low. If one asked the anti-gun lobby, they would say it’s impossible.

For years, the Left—whether via mainstream media, advocacy groups, or politicians—has peddled the notion that an increase in guns always results in an increase in violence. One New York Times article from 2013, titled “More Guns = More Killing,” beautifully captures the Left’s influence on Americans’ view of gun ownership.

But what does the data say?

New FBI data for 2024 to 2025 shows “the largest year-to-year decline in violent crime rates since FBI estimations began in 1936.” Murder fell 18.1 percent, rape fell 7.6 percent, aggravated assault fell 7.2 percent, and robbery fell 18.5 percent.

Following the Left’s logic, 2025 should have been a record-breaking year for gun control policies. However, the opposite happened—gun owners came out on top.

Scaling Back Infringement

The truth is, 2025 was a record-breaking year for gun rights:

  1. A federal appeals court struck down the federal handgun-sales ban to Americans between the ages of 18 and 20.
  2. A federal appeals court struck down New Mexico's seven-day waiting period.
  3. The Ninth Circuit struck down California's one-gun-per-month law.
  4. A Florida appeals court struck down the Sunshine State's open-carry ban.
  5. A federal court struck down the federal post office gun ban.
  6. The Third Circuit upheld its ruling that Pennsylvania's restrictions on 18–20-year-olds carrying firearms during emergencies violated the Second Amendment.
  7. A federal court struck down California's restrictions on nonresident concealed-carry permits.
  8. A federal court vacated the Biden-era pistol-brace rule, ending the ATF's attempt to regulate pistol-braced firearms as short-barreled rifles.
  9. A federal court permanently enjoined the ATF's Biden-era “engaged in the business” rule against NRA members.
  10. A Tennessee court ruled against the state's broad “going armed” restriction.
  11. Gun-rights litigation forced Memphis to abandon its local carry ban, “assault rifle” ban, vehicle-storage restriction, and red-flag ordinance.
  12. Congress reduced the federal $200 National Firearms Act tax to $0 for suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns.
  13. Wyoming repealed most of its gun-free zones.
  14. Hawaii lawmakers defeated a proposed assault-weapons and magazine ban.
  15. New Mexico lawmakers failed to pass a proposed assault-weapons ban.
  16. President Donald Trump signed the “Protecting Second Amendment Rights” Executive Order.

The list only continues when looking at 2026, which is already on course to rival the success of 2025. But victory will not stop there. The Supreme Court announced in June that it will weigh in on two challenges to the so-called “assault weapon” bans in 2027.

More Guns = Less Killing

The New York Times was wrong, and it’s not alone. Moreover, the decrease in violent crime would seem impossible based only on what the mainstream media reports.

But that is the goal. After all, how can Americans believe guns save lives if they never hear about it in the news? Where the media fails, facts will prevail.

In 2026, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its website, based on a commissioned study, to show there are over 2.5 million cases per year where someone uses a firearm for defense.

“I can see as we dig down more into the data and figure out how exactly they're coming up with these numbers, that that number will skyrocket further,” said Chris McNutt with Texas Gun Rights.

McNutt believes the number is even higher than 2.5 million.

Second Amendment advocates are already aware of this statistic, but the gun control lobby has done its best to scrub it from the record. The 2.5 million number quietly disappeared from the CDC website under former President Joe Biden’s administration. Emails uncovered by The Reload later revealed that the reference to the study vanished after gun control advocacy groups began to meet with the CDC.

The case for an armed populace goes far beyond the CDC number. FBI statistics show that lawful gun owners stop over 36 percent of all active shooter incidents. If one removes “gun-free” zones from the dataset, the number rises to over 52 percent.

Further FBI statistics show that just seven percent of crimes committed with a firearm involved legally purchased guns. Half of all offenders had stolen the firearm, while 43 percent had purchased it from underground or black-market vendors.

When it comes to school shootings, the data still rests in favor of armed citizens. The FBI reports that most active threat events—including mass shootings—are over within five minutes. Yet, it takes law enforcement between five and 10 minutes (at best) to respond to a shooting. The situation is even more dire for rural schools that could remain stranded for over 20 minutes waiting for the police response.

Why It Matters

The gun control lobby must maintain the narrative that guns are the root cause of violence. Without that argument, they are simply attacking a constitutionally protected right without reason.

The new FBI crime data refutes their claim. The imperative, then, is to ensure all Americans know the real data surrounding firearm ownership to protect the right to self-defense for generations to come.
