Georgia Governor Race: It’s Murder When Keisha Lance Bottoms Is in Charge

She was so soft on crime, it was deadly. Homicide increased each year when she was Atlanta’s mayor.

Georgia voters will name a new governor in November as Republican Gov. Brian Kemp wraps up his second and final term, and they will choose between two vastly different candidates: Republican Rick Jackson and Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms.

Jackson, 72, is the founder and CEO of Jackson Healthcare, a staffing service. He has talked about freezing the property tax and cutting income tax in half.

Lance Bottoms, 56, served as Atlanta’s mayor from 2018 to 2022. She worked as senior advisor and director of the White House Office of Public Engagement in 2022 and served until February 2023. Despite her direct proximity to President Joe “Auto Pen” Biden, public reports indicate Lance Bottoms never raised any concerns over Biden’s failed mental capacity.

She's not the one to rely on when a serious problem arises.

Murder Mayor

In Atlanta, 673 families remember Lance Bottoms as the soft-on-crime, record-breaking murder mayor. That is how many families mourn victims killed by homicide during her term. Each year, the homicide rate increased from the previous year, including three years in a row that each broke a previous record.

In 2020, Atlanta had 157 homicides; 159 in 2021; and 170 in 2022, according to FBI crime records.

Lance-Bottoms MRate

Lance Bottoms made Atlanta a sanctuary city for illegal aliens, denying the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency access to the city prison and preventing ICE agents from picking up criminals from the prison for immigration violations.

One of her first acts as mayor was to eliminate cash bond in Atlanta, allowing criminals to get out of jail free. She wanted to “close and reimagine the use” of the Atlanta prison. Lance Bottoms tried to ignore this basic reality: crime exists. She wanted to rehabilitate criminals, which is a good cause, but if criminal behaviors could be fully eradicated from society, we would have found a way to do that by now. It's doubtful her strategy would have worked—to knock down the perfectly good prison building and make it a park, with a memorial, and possibly an urban farm or seed bank. This is not public safety problem-solving. It is an unattainable utopian fantasy.

Who can forget the rioters who closed an Atlanta highway in 2020 and burned down a Wendy's restaurant after police fatally shot Rayshard Brooks, 27, during an arrest.

That same year, Lance Bottoms tried to explain that calls to defund the police are really just requests for "reallocating funds toward social services and support and community enhancement initiatives."

Her policies emboldened criminals. Atlanta’s record-breaking homicide rates on her watch show it. Now she wants to do the same thing as governor for the entire state of Georgia.
