WISCONSIN: Constitutional Candidate Maria Lazar Faces Liberal Activist Chris Taylor

The Wisconsin Supreme Court race in April offers a stark contrast between a true nonpartisan professional and a left-wing radical.

Wisconsin voters face a choice, on April 7, that could determine the future of fair courts. Judge Maria Lazar, a proven independent jurist committed to the rule of law, faces off against Chris Taylor, a left-wing activist whose radical agenda threatens to cement partisan control over Wisconsin's highest court.

Lazar takes the nonpartisan position that Wisconsin's constitution demands of Supreme Court justices. This comes as a breath of fresh air to Wisconsinites fed up with activist judges who twist rulings to implement ideological agendas and treat the position as partisan.

She explicitly distances herself from politics and is not a member of any political party. She vows to "interpret the law as written, not to advance political agendas."

With over three decades of legal experience, she has built a reputation for impartiality and dedication to the constitution.

After earning her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, Lazar spent over 20 years in private practice. In 2010, she was hired as Assistant Attorney General at the Wisconsin Department of Justice in the bankruptcy department. She also worked on heartrending foster care cases, which convinced her of the need for an impartial judiciary that follows the letter of the law.

In 2015, she ran for Circuit Court judge in her home county of Waukesha and won. She presided over diverse dockets, including civil, criminal, juvenile, and mental health cases. She also led the county’s Drug Treatment Court, helping individuals rebuild their lives while ensuring accountability.

In 2022, she was elected to the Court of Appeals.

Her experience in upholding the law positions her to champion the kind of independent, impartial judge Wisconsinites deserve.

By maintaining separation of powers, Lazar pledges not to interfere with the will of the people. This includes protecting the state’s constitutional amendment requiring photo ID to vote—which Wisconsin voters overwhelmingly passed last year via referendum. It also means protecting the will of voters through their legislators when it comes to allowing Immigration and Customs Enforcement to do its job in protecting citizens from illegal aliens and punishing crime.

Meet Activist Chris Taylor

Taylor, by contrast, would bolster the court’s liberal current 4–3 liberal majority to a 5–2 majority, entrenching leftist policies for years. This would give the activist Left uncontested free rein to usurp the legislature, hand Democrats long-term advantages in court-mandated legislative maps, and weaken crime prevention and accountability.

A former Democratic state legislator from ultra-liberal Madison, Taylor has a record of pushing extreme policies that prioritize leftist ideology.

She has been endorsed by all four liberal state Supreme Court Justices, Taylor's campaign promises to "reinforce this pro-democracy, pro-freedom majority on the Court," a clear dog-whistle for expanding judicial power to usurp the will of the people by enacting a leftist legislative agenda from the bench.

Before joining the state assembly, she worked as an attorney and policy director for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin.

But her activism doesn't stop with abortion.

Her 2018 trip to El Salvador with a leftist delegation studied "human rights and immigration issues," where one participant blamed U.S. policies for gang violence and argued against deporting illegal alien Salvadorans.

The following year, Taylor joined other radicals in the Wisconsin State Assembly to ban Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, effectively aiming to make it a sanctuary state for illegal aliens. Other measures she backed included making immigration a protected status in fair housing laws, granting in-state tuition at taxpayer-funded universities to illegal aliens, and restoring driver’s licenses to non-citizens.

She even called providing sanctuary to illegal aliens a "moral, ethical and economic issue” because of the cheap labor illegal aliens provide to corporations that prefer underpaying undocumented foreigners to paying Americans a living wage.

If Wisconsin puts someone with these views on its Supreme Court, it will pave the way for foreign welfare fraud scandals and anti-ICE riots that have plagued neighboring Minnesota.

The contrast could not be clearer. Lazar offers steady, non-partisan professional jurisprudence, while Taylor risks cementing Wisconsin’s highest court into a rubber stamp for a left-wing agenda. Common sense voters must rally around Lazar's support for upholding the rule of law and an impartial judiciary to prevent Wisconsin from sliding into a leftist judicial dictatorship.
