Cobb County Georgia School Board: Michael Garza Hopes to Bring Smutty Books Back
School time access to a picture-guide to gay oral sex is apparently the only way to make children feel included.
Michael Garza, the one-trick-pony Democrat running for Cobb County School District Post 4 in Georgia, seems to care about just one thing: getting smutty books into the hands of children. You’ve heard about the books—a collection of titles that normalize the LGBT agenda and long, steamy passages that graphically depict drug use, self-harm, and sex acts, including violent rape, incest, and prostitution.
You’ve heard about the books because Cobb County and many other school districts have been arguing over them for years.
To be accepted as equal humans, do children desperately need access to graphic novels with drawings of boys giving each other oral sex? Do they need books with pictures of various sex positions and descriptions of sex outside of marriage—or even criminal sexual violence—while budding awkwardly into puberty? Michael Garza thinks that yes, they do. It’s actually sickening; that seems to be all he can think about. His campaign website’s logo is an open book. There’s a photo on the same website where Garza is reading a book to young kids in a school library. His interview about the books by the self-proclaimed largest LGBT civil rights organization in America, Human Rights Campaign Foundation, occurred, of course, in a library.
'Book Ban'
In 2023, a split vote by the Cobb County school board fired a teacher who read My Shadow Is Purple aloud to her fifth-grade class. In rhyming verse, the gender bending book introduces the concept of multiple sexes beyond male and female. That same year in August, the board removed two sexually charged books from its school libraries, Flamer and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, and the district got serious about its 2022 library media rule for evaluating materials available to children.
Garza calls it a “book ban.” But the books are not banned; you just can’t get them at school. It is a healthy, age-appropriate boundary, and the fact that Garza has no concept of this is troubling.
Kids can go to the public library, a bookstore, or order the smutty books online. Big chunks of the books—namely, the controversial or "dog-earing" parts by kids looking for a taboo read—are easily found for free online.
To better understand banned books, Garza should go to North Korea, where possessing a Bible can get you arrested or killed. In Somalia, even accessing the Bible online can draw severe punishment.
Garza challenges Republican incumbent David Chastain. His many supporters hope to flip the board to Democrat control, so they can get rid of the boundaries that keep smut out of the school libraries. He is endorsed by School Board members Charisse Davis as well as Becky Sayler, who has a special spot on our companion site, restoringedu.com. If Garza is elected, the three will surely vote in lockstep and strong-arm the seven-member board into submission.
He has the support of well-known, far-Left groups including Georgia Equality, Indivisible Cobb, Moms Demand Action, Educate Georgia, Everytown for Gun Safety, and others who will spoon-feed him agenda items to push.
Invisible Victims
Garza imagines his quest to get sexually charged reading material back in school libraries will somehow save kids from racism and bigotry. When asked in 2023 why the public is now objecting to books, he said, “It's just good ole racism and religious bigotry enabled by state politicians - the same recipe that ushered in the age of Jim Crow and state constitutional amendments outlawing gay marriage.” That is what Garza wrote in a 2023 social media post about smutty books in school libraries.
Sounds like something the race-baiting, white-hating Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) would say. Garza is so in tune with SPLC that Michael Tafelski, the center's deputy legal director and co-interim chief legal officer, donated $5,800 to his campaign, according to the Cobb County Courier.
But do you know who Garza never talks about? The one-in-four girls and one-in-13 boys who are sexually abused before age 18. The kids who learn about sexuality against their will, in secrecy, and have a skewed sense of what is normal or healthy. When they find similar acts described in what should be a safe place, the school library, it further skews their sense of what’s normal and expected of them in relationships. Who is protecting these kids? Not Garza.
