The People Have Spoken: Only Citizens Should Vote in America

A clean sweep for Citizen-Only Voting Amendments across the nation—and a good night for election integrity.

In a stunning blow to the radical Left, Americans in 8 states passed constitutional amendments to bar non-citizens from voting—and by huge margins.

Restoration News has extensively documented the grassroots push for Citizen-Only Voting Amendments, which are designed to defend our voting rights by blocking state and local governments from allowing non-citizens to vote. That sews up a surprising loophole: Changing the requirement to vote from “every person” born or naturalized in the U.S. to “only a citizen of the United States” age 18 or older.

Amazingly, it’s that simple loophole that the activist Left has exploited to adopt non-citizen voting laws in Washington, D.C., as well as cities across New York, Vermont, Maryland, and California. D.C.’s voting law is so expansive it allows Chinese and Russian embassy staff to vote in local elections.

But this time conservatives and election integrity advocates had all the momentum… and they’re only getting started.

“Voters in 8 states sent a very clear and unmistakable message last night: Only citizens should vote,” Paul Jacob, chairman of Americans for Citizen Voting—the group behind the amendments—told Restoration News. “Every ballot measure passed by whopping margins.

“Those ballot measures also made a big difference in critical swing states North Carolina and Wisconsin,” he added, where the amendments passed by overwhelming margins. While final figures have yet to be tallied, the results as of writing are stunning.

Taking Back America

In Wisconsin, the Citizenship Voting Requirement Amendment passed 70–30 percent, winning by 1.3 million votes. Just a single county, Dane (centered on Madison), voted “no.”

North Carolina’s amendment passed 78–22 percent with the biggest margin of victory at nearly 2.95 million votes. Just 2 counties, Orange and Durham, voted “no.”cova-map-nc.PNGCounty results for NC Citizen Only Voting Amendment. Yes (red), No (blue). Credit: NBC

The margin in South Carolina was highest, with the amendment passing 86–14 percent, or 1.6 million votes. All 46 counties voted for it.

It was similarly lopsided in Oklahoma: 81–19 percent, a difference of 918,000 votes. Every county voted “yes.”

In Iowa, Amendment 1 passed 76-24 percent, a margin of 747,000 votes. The measure also allows 17-year-olds who will be 18 by Election Day to vote in primary elections. All 99 counties voted “yes.”

Kentucky Constitutional Amendment 1 won 62–38 percent, a difference of 481,000 votes.

In Idaho, HJR 5 passed 65–35 percent, winning by 235,000 votes. Every counted voted “yes.”

And in Missouri, Amendment 7 passed 68–32 with a margin of over 1 million votes. Only St. Louis County voted against it.cova-map-wi.PNGCounty results for WI. Yes (red), no (blue.) Credit: NBC

Recall that Citizen-Only Voting Amendments also passed by clear margins in the 2022 midterms, which were kind to Democrats. The biggest shocker there: Colorado, where the initiative passed by 26 percentage points.

That brings the total states with Citizen-Only Voting Amendments to 20. As for Paul Jacob and Americans for Citizen Voting, they’re just warming up: “We have people in another dozen states anxious to pass these measures and clarify that only citizens can vote in their state and local elections.

“Watch out in 2026,” he added.
