Sanctuary Schools Protect Illegal Aliens
320,000 immigrant children went missing under Biden, yet schools instruct those harming children how to avoid ICE.
Last year Restoration News documented tens of thousands of crimes by illegal aliens who invaded the nation—including raping and murdering children—on IllegalAlienCrimes.com. Now public school districts—using taxpayer dollars—are protecting these monsters. Across the nation, schools are partnering with far-left open border groups to obstruct Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Leftist extremists push the false narrative that ICE is invading schools and churches. In fact, ICE targets gangs and criminals who pose a grave threat to children in this nation.
As a reminder, here are some of the heinous crimes committed by these illegal aliens who public schools seek to protect:
- Abbotsford, WI: Illegal alien Erick Antonio Ruiz Cortez was arrested on Feb. 5, 2025, for horrific repeated sex crimes against a child under 13.
- Loudoun County, VA: Brandon Estrada de Leon, an illegal alien who overstayed his tourist visa, was arrested for harboring and abducting a teenager he raped repeatedly.
- Queens, NY: An illegal alien from Ecuador was arrested for a broad daylight rape of a 13-year-old girl. Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi approached two children in a park, tied them together by the wrists and raped the girl.
- Chester County, PA: Enrique Lopez Gomez was charged with third-degree murder for killing a 21-month-old toddler who was beaten to death—blunt force trauma to the stomach and ruptured intestine.
- Clark County, WI: Victor Manuel Gomez-Acosta was arrested for the violent stabbing deaths of two children and attempting to murder another woman.
- San Diego, CA: An illegal alien broke into a home in military housing and sexually molested a 5-year-old girl asleep in her bed.
These are just a tiny sample of the horrific crimes committed by illegal aliens and a reminder of why ICE must have freedom to enforce immigration laws.

Leftist Superintendents Protect Illegal Aliens
The number of students who require English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction—because they cannot understand the English language enough to succeed in school—has exploded in Virginia. The number of ESL students in Spotsylvania County increased nearly 90 percent in 4 years and 40 percent statewide.
On Jan. 24, 2025, Spotsylvania County Superintendent Clint Mitchell sent out a community letter indicating he will not cooperate with ICE. He tells families who are "concerned about their immigration status" to update their emergency contacts so the school can effectively communicate with them in case of "unforeseen circumstances." Is Mitchell trying to obstruct justice so ICE can't do their job to remove criminals from communities?
Mitchell also provides links to outside resources for illegal aliens including a card that instructs them not to cooperate with law enforcement. The card states: "do not open the door if an immigration agent is knocking on the door" and to "give this card to the agent." He also provides a "toolkit" that advises illegal aliens not to carry any documents that could indicate they're in the country illegally, such as identification from their country of origin.

Mitchell doesn't address concerns about illegal alien gang members invading schools, including in Virginia and Maryland. He won't mention the fentanyl crisis killing young people in schools thanks to open border policies. One of Mitchell's school counselors, Lucia Kollat, is following his lead. She sent an email to middle school families notifying them of a "Know Your Rights" workshop held by an outside group called Virginia Organizing—a so-called nonprofit that promotes abortion and helps protect illegal aliens.
Law enforcement should investigate whether these actions by school staff and leaders violate federal laws against harboring or aiding and abetting illegal aliens.

The Teachers' Union Helps Protect Illegal Alien Criminals
The National Education Association (NEA), America's largest teachers' union, created a guidance document on immigration issues in January 2025. They also promote the "red cards" highlighted on the Spotsylvania school website. The NEA encourages school districts to adopt sanctuary policies that prohibit employees from cooperating with law enforcement agencies to enforce federal immigration laws. The union and school districts should take note that Attorney General Pam Bondi recently filed a lawsuit against Illinois and Chicago over sanctuary policies that limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
Here is a list of other school staff, boards, and superintendents from Virginia and other battleground states who are pushing sanctuary policies or aiding illegal aliens.
- Accomack County, VA: chorus teacher and former state teachers' union president, James Fedderman, told media he is "willing to risk it all for my students . . . regardless of immigration status."
- Allentown, PA: The Superintendent sent a message reminding the public of a previous resolution of the school board that designates them a "Welcoming School"—aka sanctuary school. The letter also provides outside resources by referring "families to services that may be able to assist them."
- Fairfax County, VA: Has an entire website for illegal immigrants including a "family preparedness plan" detailing how to avoid ICE including advising illegal aliens not to carry documentation about their country of origin. They also promote the "red cards."
- Loudoun County, VA: Has an entire website which provides outside resources to far-left open border groups.
- Phoenix Union Schools, AZ:Declared themselves a "Safe Zone" for illegal aliens. They provide a page of resources of far-left activist organizations who aid illegal aliens.
- Richmond City School Board, VA: Adopted the NEA "Safe Zone" policy that states ICE must follow Richmond schools' policies.
- Wisconsin State Superintendent: Published a fear-mongering letter claiming new immigration policies "threaten civil rights and constitutional protections." She further claims, "hate and bullying have no home in our schools."
Government run schools are failing to educate American children. Democrats who support open borders contribute to those failures by welcoming hundreds of thousands more children into public schools. American students are suffering due to a lack of qualified teachers. Resources are being redistributed away from students with special needs to children who don't speak English and whose parents crossed the border illegally.
It's not the children's fault they were smuggled into the country illegally, but the adults committing these crimes must be held responsible and open border policies abolished.
