NEA’s AI Guidance Vilifies Straight White Males
Teachers need help with new technology. They’re getting an ideological agenda instead.
Teachers need help with artificial intelligence (AI), and the technology is moving faster than any school district can keep up with. But the group stepping in to provide that help has priorities that go well beyond education.
Parents and school leaders are concerned about the negative impacts and overuse of technology and screen time on children. Now educators are trying to navigate the use of AI in classrooms, with help from the nation's largest teachers’ union, the far-left National Education Association (NEA).
While students do need coaching on using AI and other tools responsibly, the union-sponsored guidance teachers get most parents would find offensive. The NEA offers AI resources to educators, but it's the group’s socialist agenda that should concern everyone. Parents must take note: the NEA’s track record suggests these efforts often advance ideological priorities rather than purely educational ones.
Alarmingly, the NEA admits it doesn’t want straight, white males involved in developing educational AI technology. The group proclaims that "technology developers are overwhelmingly younger, White, cisgender, heterosexual, male, and people without disabilities." It then argues that technology can only be effective if it is created by "Native, Asian, Black, Latin(o/a/x), Middle Eastern and North African, Multiracial, and Pacific Islander, LGBTQ+, and from all economic backgrounds and abilities."
When a major teachers' union is this open about its view of who should and should not shape educational technology, parents have reason to ask how white male students are regarded in the classroom itself.
The Godless Marxist NEA
Parents beware; the teachers' union wants government educators to take over every aspect of raising your child. In the teachers’ union's 2024 report on AI in education, the group pushes a Godless Marxist agenda. "Educators and schools are fundamental to the social safety net in terms of responding to the needs of the whole child," says the NEA. These ideologues are attempting to assume the vital role of parents critical to the successful upbringing of a child.
Decades of research prove that the best predictor of student success is parental involvement. One study from Concordia University found that students are also more successful with an intact two-parent family: "students who live with two biological parents have, on average, more success in school and an overall healthier well-being."
Yet, the NEA’s agenda focuses on how public schools can indoctrinate students and teachers in leftist social justice practices and expand government social policies even further.
The NEA’s Policy Statement on "Safe, Just, and Equitable Schools" is the guiding star for how the union wants AI technology implemented in schools across the nation. The group demands that all AI implementation line up with its 44-page policy directive. The NEA also declares that AI tools must not "perpetuate the school-to-prison and school-to-deportation pipeline."
The radical "Safe, Just, and Equitable Schools” policy includes the following items:
- "Culturally competent" instruction is required, which indicates race-based teaching content and more bias against white males.
- The policy calls for an end to disparities in discipline. This is the same approach as the Obama-era school discipline policies that instructed schools to reduce the disproportionate number of discipline referrals for black males or face consequences. The result was chaos in the classroom when rules went unenforced. The well-behaved students became the victims of unsafe classrooms, and students who needed correction learned there were no consequences for breaking the rules.
- The NEA wants racial and social justice education to result in equitable outcomes for all races. However, equal opportunities should be the standard—since manipulating outcomes is a socialist/communist principle.
- The union opposes “policing of students in schools.” They assert that non-white, non-straight students are “in greater jeopardy in schools with a presence of police and law enforcement.”
- The policy says, "Students, parents/guardians, and other caregivers must be engaged and trained in problem-solving techniques, conflict resolution skills, mental health and wellness, and cultural competence," which includes an "awareness of one’s own implicit biases and trauma."
That last bullet should send shivers down the spine. That’s language used by Godless Marxist communists determined to destroy the family. The union wants government schools to infiltrate and "train" parents in their dogma, at the expense of the taxpayer.
The NEA sounds more like a cult than an association with a federal charter. In 1906, Congress approved the NEA charter for the purpose of "elevat[ing] the character and advance[ing] the interests of the profession of teaching; and to promote the cause of education in the United States."
The NEA has strayed far away from its original purpose. It's past time for their charter to be revoked, and for parents to stand up and demand this leftist union be prohibited access to taxpayer funded schools across the nation.
