There’s No “Opportunity” in Kamala Harris’ Opportunity Economy

Kamala Harris won’t do anything different on the economy than her current boss, Joe Biden.

During the presidential debate in Philadelphia, PA on Sept. 10, the sitting vice president and current Democratic nominee, Kamala Harris, repeatedly returned to her grandiose vision for the economy. Harris claimed over and over that she would create the “opportunity economy.” Rather than relating to middle class and blue-collar voters, she came off as completely out of touch.

Her vision for the future went long on words, but short on details.

She finally released some policy positions on her website in advance of the debate, statements filled with flowery visions of hope. In fact, she copied and pasted many of these statements directly from the Joe Biden reelection website. Again, almost no detail.

Kamala spent the bulk of her time in the debate disparaging the former president, while declaring, “We will not go back!” What little detail she did offer included things from her website that amount to bribes to the voters: a $25,000 tax credit to new home buyers, increased tax deductions for small businesses, banning “price-gauging” on groceries, and a $6,000 child tax credit.

Kamala’s Vision Lacks Vision

Never mind that she could have pushed for all these policies now, as the second in command in the current Joe Biden administration and sitting Senate President. Her vision lacks… well… vision.

In the debate, Kamala Harris continually returned to her notion of creating an “opportunity economy.” What does that mean?

This clip shows us the real Kamala Harris. She dodges the question, “Are you better off than you were four years ago?” Instead, Harris gives a rambling answer about her upbringing in a middle-class home, and talks about “building an opportunity economy.” She cites a shortage of housing, while costs have skyrocketed. To solve the nationwide housing crisis, Harris says she’ll give a $6,000 tax cut for young families so they can afford to buy cribs and car seats.

Then, Harris goes into a tangential story about the privilege she had as a kid, when her mother could afford to hire a nanny to help raise her and her sister, which she says demonstrates her “passion for small business.” Then, more attacks on Trump, accusing him of wanting to create a national sales tax.

What a desperate attempt to distract from her lack of actual vision, by accentuating her perception of her opponent’s negatives.

Let’s return to this notion of an “opportunity economy” that she spoke of several times. What does that mean? It sure seems as if the voters didn’t think Kamala had any idea what she said. Check out this independent voter from the Dr. Phil show.

So, What Is an Opportunity Economy?

A user on X/Twitter posted the results of a helpful internet search on the origins of that term.

That result is worth reproducing in full:

Opportunity Economy as Communism

The concept of an opportunity economy, where everyone has access to resources and opportunities, is often associated with communist ideals. In this context, communism is not about equal outcome, but rather about creating a system where everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive.

Key Principles

  1. Gift Economy: In a communist system, the concept of money and scarcity is abolished, replaced by a gift economy where resources are distributed based on need, rather than market principles.
  2. Abundance: With advanced technology and efficient resource allocation, a communist economy aims to create a state of material abundance, eliminating poverty and ensuring everyone’s basic needs are met.
  3. Cooperation: Communism emphasizes cooperation and collective ownership of the means of production, fostering a sense of community and social responsibility.
  4. No Artificial Scarcity: Communism eliminates artificial scarcity, which is used in capitalist systems to maintain high prices and profits. This allows for a more equitable distribution of resources.
  5. Internal Stability: A communist economy is designed to be internally stable, with the government playing a role in ensuring economic stability and social welfare.

Incentives and Motivation

In a communist system, incentives and motivation come from:

  1. Sense of Purpose: People are motivated by a sense of purpose and contribution to the collective good, rather than personal gain.
  2. Social Recognition: Individuals are recognized and valued for their contributions to the community, rather than their individual achievements.
  3. Resource Availability: Everyone has access to the resources they need to thrive, eliminating poverty and reducing economic inequality.

Comparison to Capitalism

In contrast to capitalism, where competition and individual ambition drive economic growth, communism emphasizes cooperation and collective ownership. While capitalism relies on artificial scarcity and unequal distribution of resources, communism seeks to eliminate these barriers and create a more equitable society.

Conclusion

The opportunity economy and communism share common goals, including the elimination of poverty, inequality, and artificial scarcity. By emphasizing cooperation, collective ownership, and material abundance, communism can provide a framework for creating a society where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive.

Maybe that’s why Trump called her a Marxist. He mentioned her father, a radical Marxist professor, several times. Kamala REALLY didn’t like that.

But Trump had a solid point here. The term “opportunity economy” comes straight from Marxist doctrine. As we see above, one can define an opportunity economy more accurately as a “gift economy”—the very definition of the government picking winners and losers. Economists more accurately call that a command economy—as the Chinese Communist Party has implemented, and the Soviet Union before it.

Kamala Harris Will Have the Same Economic Policies as Joe Biden

At no point in this campaign cycle has Kamala Harris demonstrated any differentiation from President Joe Biden’s disastrous economic policies. Indeed, when considering her past statements and her current attempts to moderate her positions, what detail one can glean from her word salads indicate she will create a worse economic climate than her current boss.

Kamala Harris copied and pasted her website’s policy positions from Joe Biden’s website for an obvious reason. They share the same vision. They believe America should have a top-down, heavily regulated, command economy in which the government supports the right industries, and punishes the wrong ones. She said as much when she bragged about the Biden-Harris administration investing a trillion dollars in green energy—a result of the wildly mis-named Inflation Reduction Act.

The Biden-Harris economy has caused inflationary spikes not seen in decades due in large part to the insane spending and bad monetary policy. Restoration of America cited the out-of-control costs caused by their out-of-control government.

If anything, those numbers understate the real problem with out-of-control household costs faced by normal Americans.

Why would we hire Kamala Harris to solve the problems that she and her boss caused over the past four years? If the post-debate focus groups give us any clear indication, Kamala hasn’t convinced the voters, either.
