Marjorie Taylor Greene to Probe Planned Parenthood's Books for Fraud

The Georgia congresswoman is investigating the abortion giant's potentially unlawful use of taxpayer dollars.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is spearheading an investigation into Planned Parenthood's use of federal funds.

Greene chairs the Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) panel of the House of Representatives' powerful Oversight and Accountability Committee. In a June 13 letter to Planned Parenthood Federation of America President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson, she expressed concern that the abortion and transgender services provider "may be commingling federal funds and using them for unpermitted purposes."

Is Planned Parenthood Breaking Federal Law?

Federal law prohibits the use of taxpayer dollars for providing abortions, save under exceptional circumstances. Planned Parenthood is the nation's leading abortion provider, but it also offers other services and screenings that qualify for government funding through grants, contracts, and Medicaid reimbursement.

Greene, however, noted that Planned Parenthood's abortion business has grown a whopping 23 percent in the last decade, with more than 400,000 abortions performed in fiscal year 2023, according to its latest annual report.

At the same time, the organization provided 63 percent fewer prenatal services and 38 percent fewer contraceptive services than in 2013—all while its taxpayer funding skyrocketed by 50 percent to a total of $792.2 million.

"Despite receiving 39 percent of its annual revenue from federal funds intended for essential health services, such as cancer screenings and wellness exams, Planned Parenthood is increasingly using its resources to offer abortions to its patients," Greene wrote.

Planned Parenthood also boasts that it is the nation's second largest provider of cross-sex hormone therapy for gender transitions, with some health centers offering those services to minors as young as 16.

Notably, President Donald Trump has directed the federal defunding of medical institutions that mutilate children with puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgical procedures meant to help them present as the opposite sex. That order has been challenged in federal court.

Greene additionally cited Planned Parenthood's alleged engagement in illegal quid-pro-quo contracts with the University of Pittsburgh and the University of California San Diego.

Investigations conducted by the Center for Medical Progress suggest that Planned Parenthood affiliates agreed to provide aborted fetal tissue for disturbing experiments and other research in exchange for sponsorship and intellectual property rights.

Greene and her subcommittee are seeking copies of all Planned Parenthood's non-public financial statements and annual reports, as well as all internal policies and procedures concerning the handling of aborted fetal tissue and obtaining informed and parental consent for abortion and gender transition services. She set a June 20 deadline for receipt.

"Planned Parenthood is an abortion giant that harvests organs from babies and uses nearly all of its resources to kill babies, not provide real healthcare," the congresswoman said in a press statement.

"Despite receiving billions in taxpayer dollars, they offer almost no prenatal care, push late-term abortions, and even supply aborted babies for grotesque experiments. As a Christian, I believe every life is a gift from God, and I believe it’s time Congress holds them accountable and stops the flow of federal funds to this evil and barbaric organization."

Taxpayer Funding Helps Planned Parenthood’s Bottom Line

One person who has been sounding the alarm about Planned Parenthood's possible misuse of federal funds is Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood clinic director who is now the founder and CEO of And Then There Were None and ProLove Ministries.

"Money is fungible and all the dollars flowing into Planned Parenthood are no exception," Johnson told Restoration News in an emailed statement.

"When I worked at Planned Parenthood, all the money we received went into one account. And abortion was—and still is—the organization's top concern, which is why you see their other services declining year after year."

Planned Parenthood reported an excess revenue of more than $27 million in its annual report, Johnson noted.

"Taxpayers have been footing the bill for abortions and everything related to keeping Planned Parenthood clinics open and operating for years and it's time that gravy train comes to a stop," she said.
