Massachusetts Democrats Remove All Restrictions on Late-Term Abortion—What It Means for America

The new law drops the state's previous medical-necessity requirements, drawing condemnation from pro-life groups. Is Virginia next?

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey (D) just held a press conference to celebrate killing late-term babies. Why? She just signed a law that allows babies to be aborted up until the moment of birth with no limitations—and what's clear is that it won't end with New England.

Massachusetts already allowed abortions after 24 weeks with certain provisions. Those were:

if in the best medical judgement of the physician it is: (i) necessary to preserve the life of the patient; (ii) necessary to preserve the patient's physical or mental health; (iii) warranted because of a lethal fetal anomaly or diagnosis; or (iv) warranted because of a grave fetal diagnosis that indicates that the fetus is incompatible with sustained life outside of the uterus without extraordinary medical interventions.

That wasn’t enough for Massachusetts Democrats. They want a law with no conditions, no medical justification required—just the ability to kill a baby for any reason, at any point, up until birth. That wish has now been granted. A doctor can legally perform an abortion in Massachusetts for any reason, at any stage, with no questions asked. Gov. Healy and every legislator that voted for this bill now has blood stained hands and will have to answer to God.

SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser mourned the news of the governor’s signature on this extreme bill:

It should shock the conscience that tens of thousands of unborn Americans are barbarically dismembered limb by limb and torn apart every single year. Sadly, that number will only increase with Gov. Healey’s approval of the Abortion Up Until Birth Bill. The GOP must abandon the ‘leave it to the states’ position – a stance that permits egregious late-term abortion laws like this one – and advance national protections for unborn children. Without a minimum national standard, the United States remains 1 of only 8 countries worldwide that allows abortion at any point in pregnancy. We must do all we can to turn the page on America’s ugly chapter of late-term abortion.”

What’s Next?

Massachusetts is one of at least 11 states to allow unlimited abortions up until birth. Virginia, under Democrat Gov. Abigail Spanberger, could be next.

On November 3, Virginians will go to the ballot box to decide if they will adopt a constitutional amendment allowing abortion until birth without exceptions, not even parental notification for minors. This legislation will not only kill babies but also harm the minor children who will take part in these barbaric acts.
