The Worst Climate Stories of the Week: Black Friday Edition!

The Biden-Harris administration is blowing out the last of its budget. Everything must go—no offer too high, or too repugnant!

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have some unfinished business before they leave office in January. Their green agenda has gone up in smoke, but they still have all that money laying around from the Green New Deal Inflation Reduction Act. Because nothing says reduction of inflation like blowing even more billions on green boondoggles!

The remnants of the green energy agenda continue to cling to life this week, as defiant blue states embrace The Resistance™ against the inevitable force of the incoming Trump administration, and Europe continues to do Europe things. We have the COP29 meeting whimpering to a finish, the UN calling for gendered climate action, green energy killing more wildlife, more peak oil nonsense, France telling consumers to stop consuming, California getting set to implement its own EV purchase credit, blue states banning the sale of RVs, and more obsession with cow farts. As a bonus, we also have tax money going to terrorists for green energy credits, a week after the Taliban attended the COP29 conference.

In this week’s good news segment, we have a red state attorney general suing enormous mutual funds over ESG and rigging the coal industry.

Let’s go.

(Don’t miss last week’s column: If a Climate Meeting Happened and Nobody Cared, Did It Make a Sound?)

COP a Feel

The UN Climate Change Conference, or COP29, came to an end this past weekend, and everybody left with all sorts of feelings—mostly frustration. The 65,000-plus delegates had hoped to extort trillions of dollars from the United States and other western economies to pay climate reparations. Instead, they left with a promise of $300 billion from the U.S.—a promise with less chance of survival than an eagle around a wind turbine:

“I regret to say that this document is nothing more than an optical illusion,” Indian delegation representative Chandni Raina told the closing session of the summit, minutes after the deal was agreed. “This, in our opinion, will not address the enormity of the challenge we all face. Therefore we oppose the adoption of this document.”

Newclimatespeak Makes Big Brother Proud

Despite their utter uselessness, the UN marches on. Maybe if we get even more extreme, people will pay attention, the seem to have thought. Energy expert David Blackmon had the video on his Substack, in which some UN drone gives a droning speech about gender and climate:

Every person must have the power to act. For themselves, to act for their communities, and to act for the planet. That is why we are here today, standing up for the rights of every person. By breaking down data by gender, they can point to opportunities we cannot afford to miss. Supporting people to realize their potential to the fullest, identifying efficiencies, but most importantly, identifying opportunities. Because a gender-responsive approach isn’t just the right thing to do, it is in fact the smart thing to do.

Imagine the most boring corporate consultant giving a speech to your company and trying to cram in as many meaningless platitudes they can to make themselves sound smart and worth the exorbitant fee the CEO paid for the privilege of sitting through this instead of getting work done. Empty language means more to these people than tangible actions, never mind results.

The tagline of the video is the best part: “Bold national climate plans need to bring climate action and gender equality together, one enables the other. Because we need everyone together in this collective crisis.” They unintentionally admit the goal of every collectivist, communist initiative—everyone together in this collective crisis. Finally some honesty from these people.

Another Sacrifice at the Altar of Green Energy

It’s rare that a golden eagle creates celebrity status, but such is the case for Sparky. The three year old golden eagle fledged from the South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project, a conservation group dedicated to rebuilding the populations of the large raptors in the area. They boast of helping Scotland raising its golden eagle population to 47, the highest in centuries.

Now, Sparky is dead. He flew into a wind turbine and ended up like many others before him: dismembered and ground up by the huge turbine blades.

Gavin Newsom Leads the Deeply Unpopular Resistance

Donald Trump won reelection in decisive fashion, with most sane people agreeing the voters handed him a mandate. His Republican Party won a majority in both houses of Congress, and he won the popular vote. Polls show his agenda of draining the swamp and mass deportations of illegal immigrants hold deep popularity with the voters. Seems America has gotten sick of the woke garbage emanating from the Democrats and the Biden-Harris administration.

So it seems like a poor play for blue state governors to virtue signal with new woke policies to stand up to the incoming Trump administration. Hold my beer, says Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA):

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said if President-elect Donald Trump ends the $7,500 electric vehicle rebate program, he’ll get Californians to pay for new credits. However, the credits would not include Tesla, which is the most popular EV company and the only EV manufacturer in the state.

Newsom seriously wants to bankrupt his state and further virtue signal by excluding the company of Elon Musk, the bad African American who will hold a position in the Trump administration. They already added over a dollar a gallon in new gas taxes to pay for carbon credits. California also blocked Musk’s SpaceX from launching rockets from the state.

That should go well for the Newsom for President campaign in 2028.

Blue States Outlaw Recreation

Six blue states have adopted California’s zero-emission-vehicle regulations which will effectively ban the sale of RVs, motorhomes, and campers. Those states—California, Washington, Oregon, New York, Massachusetts, and New Jersey—decided this segment of the economy deserved to be outlawed. Even purchasing one out of state could cause problems, as the blue states implementing the ban may make registering the vehicles impossible.

You will own nothing and like it.

Denmark Passes First Tax on Cow Farts

The globalist control freaks can’t stop obsessing about bovine flatulence. All that methane causes global warming, they claim. That’s why Bill Gates has invested in a vaccine that will keep cattle from producing intestinal gas. Never mind the unintended consequences of these untested vaccines, we have a planet to save! Denmark has decided to take a more draconian approach. The northern European nation’s economy relies heavily on agriculture, but never mind the disproportionate impact this could have. We have a planet to save!

The New York Times reports with breathless admiration:

So now, Denmark’s unlikely coalition government, made up of three parties from across the political spectrum, has agreed to tax the planet-heating methane emissions that all those animals expel through their poop, farts and burps. The measure, under negotiation for years, was passed by the Danish Parliament this month, making it the only such climate levy on livestock in the world.

More Terrorists Getting In On the Climate Scam

A couple of weeks ago, we reported on the Taliban’s participation in the COP29 climate talks, because that made a lot of sense. Now comes a shocking report from senate Republicans revealing that a pro-Hamas activist group received approval for a $50 million grant from the EPA, paid for by the Inflation Reduction Act. The group, Climate Justice Alliance, repurposed the IRA acronym on their website to say, “Investment in Radical Activists.”

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) announced her staff’s research at a press conference:

No word yet as to whether EPA will proceed with the grant, but the idea they even considered it tells you all you need to know about the corrupt and anti-American Biden-Harris administration.

Now let’s take a look at the good news.

Texas-Sized Legal Action

Ken Paxton, the outspoken Republican attorney general for Texas, announced this week he will sue BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street—three of the biggest mutual funds in the world—over their ESG policies that artificially manipulated coal markets, which Paxton claims caused the electricity prices of Texans to skyrocket. Ten other states joined Texas in the suit. The Dallas Morning News reported:

BlackRock Inc., Vanguard Group Inc. and State Street Corp. were sued by a group of states led by Texas for allegedly breaking antitrust law by boosting electricity prices through their investments, in the highest-profile lawsuit yet against the beleaguered ESG industry.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and 10 other states claim the money managers combined their market clout and membership in climate groups to pressure coal producers to cut output. Shortages have caused Texans and residents of the other states to pay higher power bills, according to the lawsuit, filed Wednesday in federal court in Texas.

The suit would bar the money managers from voting on shareholder resolutions that would limit coal production and competition.

Gotta love it when red states take the fight to woke ESG companies throwing their weight around and manipulating markets.
