Anti-Fracking Groups Gave Kamala $17 Million After She Swore Off Fracking. They Know She's Lying to Win the Election.
Money trail indicates Kamala’s radical, anti-energy views remain intact despite publicly backing away from them.
Even as she swears off her decades-long opposition to fracking, Kamala Harris continues to garner robust support from environmental activist groups. Why is that?
They know full well she needs to say what she needs to say to placate Pennsylvania voters who rely on affordable, reliable energy to maintain their quality of life.
Just take it from Bernie Sanders, the far-left socialist U.S. senator from Vermont who said the quite part out loud recently. In an interview with NBC’s “Meet this Press” in September, Sanders acknowledged that Harris remain committed to “progressive” causes including anti-fracking activism despite what she is now telling voters.
As Kamala Harris continues to backpedal away from her statements made in opposition to fracking, her longtime benefactors in the radical environmental movement remain nonplussed.
Recall that in her failed 2020 presidential bid—in which she received 0 votes—Harris told CNN viewers during her 2020 presidential campaign, “There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking.” In fact, she was one of the most hard-line opponents of the policy on the Democratic debate stage, more so even than Joe Biden.
But Harris has backed off publicly from that California-style “green” position on the 2024 trail. Not because her fundamental views or values have changed—she’s said so herself—but in order to soothe concerned Pennsylvania voters who rely on fracking for their jobs and the electricity powering their homes. Yet the endorsement from left-wing groups proves her change-of-heart is a ruse and nothing more.
Fracking could be the silver bullet that ends Kamala’s campaign. A new poll by Steve Cortes’ League of American Workers found that just 31 percent of Pennsylvania voters—and a mere 23 percent of independents—buy Kamala’s story that she’s now a champion for fracking.
With an eye toward Pennsylvania’s pivotal 19 electoral votes, Harris has been engaged in what one Republican strategist aptly describes as a “sprint to the middle” on energy policy that’s a pure headfake. Here’s why: Pennsylvania is number two in the nation only to Texas in terms of natural gas production and is the third-largest coal-producing state behind just Wyoming and West Virginia. Pennsylvania is also the second-largest net supplier, after Texas, of total energy to other states. Fracking, also known has hydraulic fracturing, figures prominently into the equation here as it has made possible for energy companies to tap into rich supplies of oil and natural gas across Pennsylvania, and other states, that were previously beyond reach.
Pennsylvania’s economic and geopolitical importance is difficult to overstate since it’s also in position to export natural gas to allied nations. The Harris-Biden administration’s decision to halt liquified natural gas (LNG) exports earlier this year only makes the vice president’s back flips on energy policy seem less plausible. In July, a federal judge lifted the administration’s moratorium and called out Team Harris for subverting the language of the Natural Gas Act and undercutting the public interest.
What is Fracking?
Engineers who take part in the process of hydraulic fracturing, inject water mixed with sand and chemicals into a well at high pressure, producing a fluid that fractures the rock and releases trapped oil or natural gas. This works to the great advantage of Pennsylvania residents who benefit from heightened economic activity. The Marcellus Shale Coalition, a trade group that supports companies who helped make the “Natural Gas Revolution” possible, has detailed stats on the jobs and revenue that have flowed into the state.
So it’s hard to imagine anyone overtly opposed to fracking winning Pennsylvania’s electoral votes in November.
If Harris is to be believed, fracking has a new champion from San Francisco. But the money trail suggests she has not changed her stripes despite her protestations to the contrary. Moreover, none of her leftist, ultra-“green” backers have expressed any buyers’ remorse. Here are a few of the groups on record in opposition to fracking who poured multimillion dollar contributions into the Harris campaign.

For the 2024 election cycle, this list would include the League of Conservation Voters donating more than $9 million, the Environmental Defense Fund, donating more than $3.8 million, and Clean Power Action donating $4.5 million. Go in search of anyone tied to those groups who have been critical of Harris’s morphing stance on fracking, and that search will be in vain.
Other “progressive,” anti-fracking outfits like the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), the Sierra Club, and their affiliates, also remain fully committed to Harris. The NRDC Action Fund has a glowing tribute to Harris on its website, while the Sierra Club remains motivated to attract “swing state voters” to the Harris campaign.
Left-leaning environmental groups have adopted a uniform stance with a “do-no-harm-approach” to Harris giving her ample room to dupe voters.
Kamala’s own record on “green” issues demonstrates her own fealty to California-style radical environmentalism.
As Jeff Reynolds reminded readers in a piece for Restoration News, Harris said multiple times in her 2020 presidential run that she would end “on day one” all federal support for the oil and gas industry, and would block new oil and gas drilling leases.
Go back further in history, as Reynolds notes, then-U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris of California signed on as a cosponsor of the “Green New Deal,” the non-binding resolution offered by Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). The Green New Deal, according to the New York Times, called for the federal government to convert the electrical grid to 100% “clean energy” by 2030. As attorney general of California, Harris was every bit as extreme, and anti-energy as she is now. Attorney General Harris successfully sued no less than the Obama-Biden administration to prevent fracking off the Pacific Coast.
There’s long, detailed record of hostility toward America’s oil and gas industry on the part of Harris that she would have to completely repudiate if she is be believed now. The greens seem to know better.
