Welcome to the American Color Revolution, Comrades (Pt. 1)

It’s been a long time coming—many decades, in fact—but the Left’s communist color revolution has finally breached America’s shores in earnest. It arrived not like a worthy adversary on the battlefield but as a false friend smiling and plotting and waiting within our very walls. If the unconstitutional political persecution of former President Donald J. Trump has taught us anything, it is that the Left’s quest for power will never stop. The time for polite conversation and acquiescing in the name of compromise is over. America’s founding principles matter, and it’s time the Right acted like it.

What Exactly is a Color Revolution?

The concept of revolution is not new, of course. After all, our great nation was founded through a bloody revolution when we threw off the taxing political chains placed on our colonial ancestors by the King of England. A revolutionary uprising of that type is sudden and radical and occurs to affect political or economic change. It is a revolution born from the inside.

The cruel Chinese Cultural Revolution, led by communist dictator Mao Zedong from 1966 through 1976, was a brutal social and political revolution. To align Chinese society with communist ideology, Mao’s revolution attacked the “Four Olds”—old ideas, old culture, old customs, and old habits. It was a revolution born from the inside.

The concept of a color revolution is slightly more complex than either of those revolutions alone. A color revolution combines aspects of a revolution (sudden and radical) and a cultural revolution (it aligns with an ideology); however, it is typically born from the outside. It destabilizes a country or government with chaos and civil unrest to the advantage of outside agitators from other countries or groups.

For example, throughout the Cold War up to the present day, the United States incited color revolutions inside foreign countries by funding and training agitators in places such as the Middle East, Latin America, Macedonia, and present-day Ukraine.

Now, for the first time, we know the origins of a color revolution inside our own country are both domestic and foreign. Today, the Marxist Left acts from both inside and outside of America itself. In addition, the Left has openly joined forces to work together with socialists, communists, anarchists, and Islamists to destabilize America by inciting chaos and violence here at home. In other words, for the first time, foreign agitators are conspiring with domestic agitators, following the playbook America taught them. Their goal is to bring about political and cultural change within our borders. Our revolutionary chickens have indeed come home to roost.

What Is the Color Revolution Playbook?

The Blaze’s Glenn Beck was among the first to recognize the color revolution threatening our republic. Beck posited that Democratic Party apparatchik Michael McFaul is not only recognized as the current American authority on color revolutions, but his tactics are now employed in America. McFaul is the former Special Assistant to the President under Barack Obama and the former Senior Director for Russian and Eurasian Affairs at the National Security Council at the White House.

McFaul wrote the book on how to foment a color revolution in the early 2000s. In it, he identified the seven essential steps of a color revolution via an election interference catalyst:

1. The target country must be a semi-autocratic regime.
2. The election must include an unpopular incumbent.
3. A united and organized opposition must drive the revolution’s falsified election narrative.
4. Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) with electoral-monitoring capabilities must appear independent.
5. A compliant media must inform citizens about corrupt voting.
6. A mobilized political opposition must drive large-number demonstrations to protest the corrupted election results.
7. Divisions among the regime’s coercive forces, such as the military, police, and security, must be exploited.

Does any of this sound familiar? It should.

By late 2009, Obama Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced the Civil Society 2.0 initiative to “help grassroots organizations around the world use digital technology to tell their stories, build their memberships and support bases, and connect to their community of peers around the world.” In reality, it used McFaul’s steps to incite regime change worldwide through digital technology usage. Clinton’s initiative included “$5 million in grant funds for pilot programs in the Middle East and North Africa” and trained foreign resistance groups on how to use apps, websites, and social media platforms to connect, communicate, and spread propaganda to “administer and sustain their own programs and solutions to shared problems.” By the early 2010s, a color revolution dubbed ‘The Arab Spring’ swept the Middle East and North Africa. 

It’s clear the revolutionary seeds planted by Obama and his administration in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and South America are now coming to fruition here at home in the form of “election denial,” campus “protests,” anti-Israel encampment takeovers, pro-Hamas occupations, and other civil disruptions.

Targeting Elections

McFaul outlined the steps for a color revolution with voter fraud as the catalyst. His steps, however, can undoubtedly employ other catalysts. Today, McFaul’s steps are in action within the multi-tentacled catalyst that is the Leviathan of Cultural Marxism as it advances across America and the West. In other words, more than one catalyst can spark a color revolution, and more than one is needed to take down a diverse and expansive society like America.

Much like the Cloward-Piven Strategy of the 1960s intended to overwhelm the welfare system, today’s leftists intend to overwhelm and disrupt all of America’s systems. We know they have been taking over our systems like education, entertainment, the media, and corporate boardrooms for decades. Still, the end is in sight, and they are desperate to speed up the process before the November election. The end goal for the Left is massive and overwhelming chaos that will eventually collapse our systems and rebuild them in the Marxist mold.

The one event they cannot allow is a repeat of 2016—and another presidential victory by Donald J. Trump.

Welcome to the American Color Revolution

STEP 1:  A semi-autocratic—part democracy, part autocracy—regime must be in place. Biden often rules through fiat or executive order, giving him and his administration absolute power without the Constitutional checks and balances he is meant to have as the embodiment of the Executive branch of the government. According to Ballotpedia, in just under three-and-a-half years, Biden has “signed 138 executive orders and 185 presidential memoranda,” which are “used as the equivalent of an executive order.” At other times, Biden allows the three branches of government to work as our Founders intended.

A semi-autocratic regime? Check.

STEP 2:  An unpopular incumbent. With Biden and Trump as candidates, we effectively have two incumbents running this election cycle. Each candidate is unpopular—even hated—by roughly half of the country. Biden and the Democratic Party demonize Trump and MAGA, trying to make them even more unpopular and unappealing. Meanwhile, Trump and MAGA demonize Decrepit Old Joe and his failed policies. According to the Reuters’ Presidential Approval Tracker, 59 percent of Americans disapprove of President Joe Biden. According to Gallup, Biden averaged a historically low “38.7% job approval during his 13th quarter in office.”

Unpopular incumbent? Check.

STEP 3:  A united and organized opposition. Funded and supported by outsiders like China, Hamas, and globalist billionaires, the domestic NGOs and nonprofit foundations are free to organize on college and university campuses across our nation. They spend their money training and organizing students and activists to cause disruption and chaos through violent and destructive activism. Many of the paid activists connect to more than one group, and the groups themselves are becoming more interconnected with Islamists, Marxists, and communists working together to destroy America, Western governments, and our way of life.

A united and organized opposition? Check.

STEP 4:  NGOs with electoral-monitoring capabilities must appear independent. In 2020, many state and local governments in critical states accepted over $400 million from leftist tech entrepreneur Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, who funded leftist NGOs. These dark money Zuckerbucks “were disproportionately siphoned to left-leaning counties to boost Democrat turnout and influence the outcome” of the elections. Among other questionable matters, Zuckerberg’s operatives were able to “assist in election administration, including assisting with curing absentee ballots,” and they also had “unprecedented access to ballot information, including daily reports of absentee ballot counts and the keys to at least one mail-in ballot storage room.”

Biased NGOs monitoring elections? Check.

STEP 5: Rapid-response media to generate, instigate, and amplify the revolution’s catalysts. These days, it goes without saying that the mainstream media (MSM) is not only supportive of the Left but also complicit in furthering its goals and power. The compliant media covers up the truth through avoidance reporting, distraction, and redirection. To see their work, we need only think of the lie of Russiagate, Hillary Clinton’s 30,000 erased emails, the squashed Hunter Biden laptop story, the mostly peaceful BLM/Antifa Summer of Love riots, the ignored Biden family financial connections to China, and the countless other false or deliberately avoided stories the MSM has perpetuated or intentionally ignored over the past few years.

Compliant media? Check.

STEP 6: Political opposition capable of mobilizing sizable demonstrations against falsehoods. The recent pro-Hamas “protests,” encampments, and takeovers on our colleges, universities, and roadways demonstrate the Left’s ability to mobilize large numbers of activists, useful student idiots, and well-meaning but completely uninformed participants.

Mobilized opposition? Check.

STEP 7:  Exploitation of the divisions among the regime’s coercive forces, such as the military, police, and security forces. The intentional chaos at the wide-open southern border, climbing crime rates, police defunding efforts, Soros-backed district attorneys who refuse to apply the law, changing laws to protect criminals and indict political opponents, and no-cash bail policies are only a few ways the Left has demoralized, demeaned, and demonized our men and women in uniform as well as the legal system that supports them.

Divide law enforcement? Check.
