Virginia Elected Democrats Who Celebrated Charlie Kirk’s Assassination

Multiple elected Virginia Democrats have shown their approval for Kirk’s murder, including one who endorsed Abigail Spanberger.

After the brutal assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, many Virginia Democrats partied on social media like it was still 2020, expecting internet validation and zero public accountability for celebrating violence against conservatives. One of these officials has even endorsed Democrat candidate for Governor Abigail Spanberger.

Long before the assassin’s bullet struck Kirk, Democrats had been fearmongering that the American Right aims to destroy democracy and introduce a totalitarianism that will oppress minorities and women. Although many Democrats likely see this as a useful get-out-the-vote effort for low-information MSNBC consumers, this rhetoric activated the worst instincts in radical ideologues.

On July 17, Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) blasted Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard for speaking at a Turning Point USA conference organized by Charlie Kirk, whom he called “a right-wing zealot.” He accused her of trashing “the whole intelligence workforce” and claimed that at the conference, she pledged “to root out anybody that is not loyal to the Trump regime.”

This shows Warner has a profound difference of opinion on the form of government the U.S. has from that of the Founders and conservatives. The intelligence workforce is not guaranteed job security if they don’t agree with the Commander-in-Chief’s mission any more than a soldier is guaranteed job security if he refuses to follow orders.

Shortly after Kirk’s assassination, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released a statement promising to revoke the license of any teacher who “would suggest the heinous murder of a father of two young children is acceptable,” noting that parents “rightly expect teachers and school leaders to model the value of respect, civility, and responsibility.”

In response, Melinda Rogers, a Virginia Beach School Board Member and certified class observer and teacher trainer, called it “the most disturbing post” she’d ever seen come from the VDOE. She claimed the message failed “to protect the children and families of Virginia from HARMFUL statements” by Kirk.

Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Member Juli Briskman suggested Kirk created the environment that got him assassinated when she criticized MSNBC for firing analyst Matthew Dowd, who implied Kirk’s words got him killed. Dowd also suggested the shot that killed Kirk was one of Kirk’s own supporters firing his gun in celebration, showing the vast gulf that separates liberals’ caricature of conservatives and the way conservatives actually live and act.

Meet the Assassin Celebrant Who Endorsed Spanberger

Chesterfield County School Board Member Dot Heffron posted an Instagram story that said, “Call me old-fashioned, but I remember when we used to be okay with shooting Nazis.”

She introduces herself as a former homemaker “who made good trouble . . . when she ran for school board in Chesterfield County, Virginia.” The late Rep. John Lewis (D), a former civil rights activist, popularized the term “good trouble,” which Democrats have since used to describe any political action they engage in, to convince themselves they’re fighting for civil rights.

On December 13, 2023, Spanberger wrote, “I’m proud to announce Chesterfield County School Board Member Dot Heffron’s endorsement of my campaign to serve as Virginia’s next governor! Thank you for your dedication to Chesterfield’s students and families—and for always sharing your perspective as a parent and educator.”

Spanberger has clearly not felt the need to reject Heffron’s endorsement or comment on her “perspective as a parent and educator” on Kirk’s assassination.

This should come as no surprise, however, considering one of Spanberger’s own staffers celebrated Kirk’s assassination.

Jasmine Frye, who describes herself as a community organizer and lists her employment with Spanberger, wrote on Facebook after Kirk died, “F around and find out. His entire brand was hate and violence; you attract what you preach.”

These comments show that many elected Democrat officials are not above the brainwashed TikTok teens and tweens who celebrated Kirk’s assassination and applaud political violence against conservatives. Their view of politics as a fight between good and evil, with conservatives being evil fascists is not a joke or a political ploy for them to drive up election turnout. They genuinely believe it, as shown in their statements following Kirk’s death. Spanberger’s failure to disavow Heffron’s endorsement represents the most troubling aspect and something voters should consider when going to the polls.
