The Public School Rewrite of 9/11: The Hijackers Weren't Terrorists
Virginia Democrats mandated the revival of a 9/11 video that warns teachers against "American exceptionalism" and Muslim trauma.
Twenty-five years after nineteen Muslim hijackers murdered nearly 3,000 Americans in the name of jihad, Virginia is telling public-school teachers that the real victims that day were Muslims. The state has baked that message into a training video that Virginia Democrats and Governor Abigail Spanberger (D) just mandated.
In March 2026, Gov. Spanberger signed into law a Democrat sponsored bill requiring the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) restore a video on its website that paints Muslims as the real victims of 9/11.
The despicable video, originally published in 2021 under Gov. Ralph Northam (D) and subsequently removed in 2024 by Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin, claims to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the attack. Instead, it presents a twisted and false narrative of the events.
Rewriting History
The webinar, titled "Culturally Responsive & Inclusive 9/11 Commemorations," indoctrinates public school teachers on a distorted view of how to instruct students about 9/11. Teachers are told not to use the word "terrorist" because the term has "often been directly paralleled with casualties and trauma that have been inflicted by people who proclaim to be Muslim or practicers of the Islamic faith."
"Teaching is a political act" asserts Amaarah Decuir, the webinar's Islamist instructor. She advises teachers to avoid the "false assumption" of Muslim responsibility for the 9/11 attack. "We're just going to begin right there and name that there is no responsibility and therefore we're not going to use this space to try and untangle that," asserts Decuir. She also said, "we're not going to reproduce what's understood as American exceptionalism." DeCuir told teachers they should not ask their students to name the extremists who caused 9/11. She said, "that is not a relevant detail, it is not relevant information at all."
It is a fact that the nineteen terrorists and the co-conspirators who took nearly 3,000 innocent lives on 9/11 were Muslim and they committed the terrorist acts in the name of their religion. Before the attack, one of the hijackers admitted he was planning to wage a jihad because there was no greater honor than to die for Allah. Another said the highest duty of every Muslim was to pursue jihad, and the highest honor was to die during the jihad.
DeCuir failed to present those truths in her webinar.
Rather than teaching the truth about the Muslim extremist murderers, Democrats want to rewrite history.
It's not just Virginia Democrats pushing these alternative realities. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), believes he and other Muslims were the real victims of 9/11. "Growing up in the shadow of 9/11, I have known what it means to live with an undercurrent of suspicion," said Mamdani. He claims he was singled out in airports and that his Muslim aunt was afraid to ride the subway wearing her hijab. Mamdani's father, Mahmood Mamdani, wrote a book after the attacks and said the suicide bombers should be "understood as a feature of modern political violence rather than stigmatized as a mark of barbarism."
Families of 9/11 victims have called for Mamdani to be excluded from this year’s New York City commemoration ceremony. The mayor has signaled he will still attend.
The Islamic Infiltration
Danny Burmawi, a former Muslim, breaks down the intentions of the religion in his book: Islam, Israel, and the West. Burmawi reveals that Islam isn't just a faith, it's a political ideology and its sovereignty must "manifest in governance, legislation, and judicial authority" (Qur'an 12:40). Burmawi warns that Islam is a political ideology that "requires universal expansion and institutional enforcement."
Islamic ideology has infiltrated American institutions, including through state level legislation forcing it in public schools. It's not only in Virginia.
In Connecticut, a new 2026 state law mandates the State Board of Education to make curriculum materials available to local school boards on Islamic and Arab studies and encourages districts to "provide instruction in this area." There is no similar requirement for curriculum on Judaism or Christianity.
On August 7th in California, parents filed a lawsuit against the Palo Alto Unified School District after the district took students on a high school field trip to a mosque. Jewish students were forced to participate by wearing head coverings inside the mosque, they were given Qurans, and taught that Islam "promotes social justice."
Two Minnesota public schools created architectural plans to establish prayer rooms and foot washing stations for Muslim students.
No amount of "culturally responsive" training can change the fact that nineteen terrorists murdered nearly 3000 people in the name of Islamic jihad. When a state tells teachers not to say "terrorist," not to name the attackers, and not to treat the religion they invoked as relevant, it does not protect students from bigotry. It protects an ideology from scrutiny. Inclusion that requires forgetting who did what, and why, is not education. It's political pandering that treats historical facts about an attack on America as obstacles to be managed rather than a truth to be kept.
