Tammy Baldwin Voted to Subsidize Teslas With Your Medicare Dollars. Who Does She Really Represent?

The Senator from Madison shows her San Francisco values once again

Joe Biden wants to forcibly transition Americans to a fossil fuel-free economy—and force struggling seniors to pay for it.

Biden’s bragged that his misnamed Inflation Reduction Act “saved” $280 billion by compelling pharmaceutical companies to accept lower Medicare reimbursements. Left unsaid is that a whopping 85 percent of those “savings” will fund subsidies for Teslas and other electric vehicles (EVs)—$7,500 per vehicle.

Only 15 percent of the money actually goes to helping seniors “for some relatively inexpensive new benefits,” writes the Wall Street Journal, and that won’t do much to combat rapidly rising Medicare Part D premiums for prescription drugs—perhaps as much as 21 percent this year alone.

If budgets reveal politicians’ true priorities, then Joe Biden deserves to be called President Green New Deal. So what does that make Tammy Baldwin, who voted for his Inflation Reduction Act?

The average EV costs just under $54,000. Even with $22 billion in government subsidies over 13 years, fewer than 16,000 Wisconsiners own one. It’s no wonder why: In winter, EVs can lose as much as 40 percent of their charge due to cold weather, while dozens of Tesla owners were left stranded in Milwaukee when their car batteries died and local charging stations failed.

By the way, charging an EV is equivalent to $17.33 per gallon of gasoline. Not that their owners eat that cost—a stunning 93 percent of it is passed on to working families in the form of higher taxes and electricity bills. The scheme’s been rightly called “socialism for the rich.”

When the conservative League of American Workers polled on shunting Medicare money into subsidizing more EVs to battle global warming, 81 percent of Wisconsin voters called it “a bad idea.” For Wisconsin seniors, that rose to 93 percent. Just 4 percent approving of the scheme.

That’s not only bad policy, it’s dumb politics. So why isn’t Tammy Baldwin distancing herself from the Biden administration’s extreme “green” ideology? The answer’s obvious: She supports it lock, stock, and barrel—just one more example of the Senator from Madison picking radical Left values over Wisconsin values. Seniors, can you afford another 6 years under Tammy Baldwin?
