Radical Pro-Abortion Group Backs Susan Crawford for WI Supreme Court
EMILY’s List promotes unlimited, taxpayer-funded abortion—and believes Crawford will, too.
In January, the extremist pro-abortion group EMILY’s List endorsed the Democrat-backed candidate Susan Crawford for Wisconsin's open Supreme Court seat.
EMILY’s List supports abortion for any reason, at any time—even for viable babies right before the moment of birth—and demands taxpayers fund it. The group endorses and financially supports pro-abortion Democrat women who run for office. In fact, it is so hyper-partisan, the group refuses to endorse Republican women even if they support abortion.
The group’s vice chair, Karla Jurvetson, personally donated $20,000 to Crawford, the maximum legal donation to a Supreme Court candidate. Jurvetson did the same for pro-abortion Supreme Court Justice Janet Protasiewicz in 2023, an advocate for abortion rights.
EMILY’s List was one of the 5-largest donation bundlers for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 failed presidential primary campaign. When Clinton lost, it called into question the group’s premise that women will automatically back other women for office based on gender solidarity.
At the time, many Democrats recognized that EMILY’s List’s radical pro-abortion position alienated many female voters—especially working-class women. One Democrat Congresswoman feared an EMILY’s List endorsement would become the kiss of death for her campaign.
However, EMILY’s List only doubled down on radical pro-abortion feminism.
Remember the astroturfed “War on Women” narrative the Left pushed during the Obama presidency? EMILY’s List concocted that to bolster Clinton in her second try for the White House in 2016.
After Clinton went 0–2, EMILY’s List co-sponsored the infamous Women’s March of 2017. Rather than become a movement, the March quickly collapsed under the weight of identity politics, which now trumped feminism as the Left’s issue du jour.
In 2020, left-wing billionaire George Soros gave EMILY’s List $1 million as part of a broader effort to bolster left-leaning super PACs.
Legalizing Infanticide
Crawford’s refusal to outright say how she’ll rule on abortion-related cases if she wins is like a congressional candidate refusing to say if he’ll vote for a bill legalizing late-term abortion—but bragging about having helped legalize late-term abortion in the state legislature.
Crawford repeatedly suggests legislators have no constitutional right to rule on abortion. She goes so far as to claim the Dobbs case, which returned abortion to the states in 2022, “was wrongly decided.” If she wins on April 1, there’s nothing stopping Crawford from just pretending Dobbs never happened.
She also says she won’t recuse herself if an abortion-related case comes before her on the bench, despite representing Planned Parenthood in a case against duly enacted pro-life legislation.
At a local Democrat Party town hall, she bragged, “I represented Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and their doctors to make sure they could deliver healthcare services, including abortion—abortion services are healthcare—to women without having to worry about losing their medical license or being prosecuted for it. So, that was important work that I did.”
She said she first decided to run for judge because even though she won cases in the lower courts against laws to protect election integrity or protect babies’ lives, the Supreme Court, which she characterized as being “run by a very conservative, right-wing majority,” overturned the liberal lower courts’ decisions.
In another interview, Crawford said she would rule against abortion restrictions—even if Wisconsinites pass legislation restricting abortion access—citing her “experiences and values” as the criteria on which she would base her rulings.
In 2023, EMILY’s List also endorsed Janet Protasiewicz, whose election flipped the Wisconsin Supreme Court to a pro-abortion majority. Protasiewicz has since endorsed Crawford for the high court. The group’s endorsement of Crawford aims to maintain that majority.
If Crawford wins Wisconsin, she and the other pro-abortion liberals like Protasiewicz who lack all respect for the U.S. Constitution and separation of powers will turn Wisconsin into a mecca for abortion on demand. Like EMILY’s List, they believe voters don’t have a right to legislate on abortion and will block any attempt by the Wisconsin legislature or Wisconsin voters to protect life.
