On Abortion, the Left is Wildly Out of Touch with America
…and Joe Biden is violating the historic teaching of the Roman Catholic church on protecting life
Americans overwhelmingly support putting limits on the ability to kill babies, yet Joe Biden and the Democratic Party continue to advocate for this barbaric practice up until the point of conception.
73 percent of Americans surveyed believe that abortion should not be permitted at all after 15 weeks. Even 31 percent of Democrats and 37 percent of Independents believe abortion should either never be permitted or only allowed for cases of rape or incest.
Biden Democrats like Virginia Del. Kathy Tran want abortion to be legal up until the moment of birth. Biden himself believes that abortion is a “fundamental right”—despite his professed Catholic faith.
According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law.”
In 2021, controversy surrounded Biden receiving communion due to his outspoken advocacy promoting abortion. Leadership of the Catholic Church approved revisions to a document that provided instruction on the Eucharist. Here are some of the final changes in the Eucharist document:
[A] person who receives Holy Communion while in a state of mortal sin not only does not receive the grace of the sacrament, he or she commits the sin of sacrilege by failing to show the reverence due to the Body and Blood of Christ. If a Catholic in his or her personal or professional life were knowingly and obstinately to reject the defined doctrines of the Church, or knowingly and obstinately to repudiate her definitive teaching on moral issues, however, he or she would seriously diminish his or her communion with the Church.
“Reception of Holy Communion in such a situation would not accord with the nature of the Eucharistic celebration,” the document concludes, “so that he or she should refrain.”
Yet Biden knows abortion is evil and he continues to snub his nose at the communion table. He somehow even convinced the Pope that he should be able to continue to partake in the holy sacrament. According to Biden, the Pope responded that “he was happy that I was a good Catholic and I should keep receiving communion.” If true, there certainly seems to be an imbalance between approved doctrines in the American Catholic Church and that of the Pope on the topic of abortion. The President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops stated that President Biden had pledged to advocate for policies like abortion that would “advance moral evils.” Perhaps this disconnect in the teachings and practices in the Catholic Church on abortion is a reason for its 20 percent decline in membership.

Abortion Inc.
Such clear indications that three quarters of Americans oppose abortion after 15 weeks should cause every politician to at least ponder the idea of abortion limits, but instead Biden and his Democrats continue to tote the Planned Parenthood narrative that “abortion is healthcare.”
Left-wing activists organizations like Shout Your Abortion—whose parent organization, NEO Philanthropy, received $130 million in contributions from mega-funders in 2022—not only promote abortion, but praise and brag about it. The group’s Instagram page is full of comments such as “I have never regretted my abortion, and when I think about it, I have strong feelings of gratitude. Abortion for anyone, for any reason, forever.” Another post compares getting an abortion to a routine procedure like a root canal.
State laws on abortion seem to follow local party lines in the wake of the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade. All blue states like California, Washington, and Illinois still have virtually unrestricted abortion access and almost all red states have either restricted or banned abortion. Unfortunately, Alaska, Montana, and Wyoming still have liberal abortion laws despite being red states.
Don’t Hide From the Issue
Even though the Left is out of touch with how voters feel on the topic of abortion, they’ve succeeded in controlling the narrative. The racist Margaret Sanger and Planned Parenthood crowd has done a great job of painting a picture that the nation will fall apart if abortion is restricted.
In reality, conservatives should dominate the abortion debate by reflecting the majority view in America that 3rd trimester babies must be defended. Yet too many conservatives have remained fearful and silent on abortion, letting their pro-abortion opponents spread the lie that most Americans want unlimited abortion laws.
Some Republican candidates weakened their messaging after Dobbs was announced. Blake Masters in Arizona was one of them.
While Masters’ stance was commendable and he wisely attacked the Democrats’ abortion extremism, it’s dangerous to shift messaging on a hot issue just a couple of months before an election. The media was quick to point out that Masters’ position had changed, rather than the fact that he’d moderated his position—creating yet more fodder for the pro-abortion radicals to make abortion the centerpiece of the 2022 Arizona Senate race. Masters lost.
Democrats are not going to stop talking about abortion. The more Republicans try to ignore the issue, however, the more elections they are going to lose. Conservatives must go on offense on abortion to highlight how out of touch the Left is with a majority of Americans. The polls are clear that the country is aligned with the Republican Party, so adopt this message and expose the Biden Democrats for aligning with the “Shout Your Abortion” extremists.
