Never Let a Shooting Go to Waste: Inside a Socialist Democrat's Bullhorn Politics
Socialist Francesca Hong uses death to advance her gubernatorial campaign because it fits her narrative, yet she ignores other terrible deaths.
There's an old rule in Democrat politics—never let a crisis go to waste—and a socialist running for governor in one of 2026's toughest races is turning that cynicism on cops, never mind the facts.
Yesterday afternoon, a police officer in Madison, Wisconsin, shot and killed a man during a chaotic arrest in the middle of an intersection. The city police chief says the suspect allegedly wielded a knife, and the officer in question is a seasoned professional. Presumably the officer was acting in self-defense. That's about where the facts, as we know them, end.
Then Francesca Hong—a member of the radical Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) now running for Wisconsin governor—donned her "working-people jumpsuit," grabbed a (literal) bullhorn, and pounded pavement to whip the public into a dangerous anti-cop frenzy.
“A man died of state-sanctioned violence," Hong declared. "This state-sanctioned violence was an execution!"
No mention of the knife. No time for an honest investigation to yield clarity and truth to the tragic situation. Just a declaration of war on a "system that . . . puts the pain and lives of armed officers above over black people," she went on.
How We Got Here
- Hong is running in a tight Democrat primary on an abolish the police platform, taking every chance she can to attack cops.
- Yet Hong has said nothing about other victims like Sade Robinson, a 19-year-old Milwaukee woman whose body was found dismembered after her first date with her killer, Maxwell Anderson.
- She was equally silent about the alleged rape and murder of 10-year-old Liliana Mae "Lily" Peters by a teen in Chippewa Falls.
- Does Hong care about violent deaths—or only tragedies she can use to boost her campaign in the polls?
Why It Matters to You
Hong is a frontrunner in the August 11 Democratic primary for Wisconsin Governor. Recent polling suggests she could win the nomination, pitting her against likely Republican nominee Tom Tiffany to be the next governor of one of America's most important swing states.
Beyond the Headlines
Madison Police have, for years, asked for body cams. They did a 90-day test run of the cameras in 2024. But the city never finds the money to fund this tool. Madison would be safer if the police were better funded.
Former President Barack Obama’s chief of staff Rahm Emanuel famously said, “You never want a serious crises to go to waste. What I mean by that is, it’s an opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before.”
Leftists do this all the time, and that is what Hong is doing now.
