EXCLUSIVE: Support for National Voter Registration Sunday is Growing Daily

God established civil government. It is the duty of every Christian to be proactive participants by casting a vote for their leaders

The word is spreading about a brand-new holiday, National Voter Registration Sunday, and it’s rallying Christians to vote on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

The nonpartisan, ecumenical movement of faith-based organizations launched the new holiday in August in an effort to get Evangelicals and Catholics to live out their faith in their personal lives and their public lives. This coalition encourages Christians to share important information with their pastors and priests and urge them to register to vote.

Now two more groups have endorsed the movement: Moms for Arizona and North Carolina Values Coalition.

They join endorsements from founding members Catholic Vote, Faith Wins, Susan B. Anthony List, American Principles Project, American Majority, and the Foundation for the Restoration of America.

"In our teachings, we emphasize the importance of justice and fairness," said Moms for Arizona state director Mayra Rodriguez. "It is crucial, now more than ever, to vote in alignment with our values and the teachings of the Bible, as the lives of many innocent individuals are at risk. We have taken for granted our freedom of religion and other liberties.

"Let’s prioritize doing what is suitable for others during this critical time," she added.

Exercising Biblical Citizenship

We as Christians in these times would do well to remember the words of Dietrich Bonhoeffer: 'Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.' As Christians we must choose to act and confront the evil we face and that involves registering to vote and engaging in the process.

~ Ned Ryun, American Majority

There is only one perfect man to have walked the earth and he was God incarnate. We can’t cast a vote for Jesus, as the only true perfect candidate, but we must still participate in the process. Throughout history, God placed leaders in positions of power to fulfill His will and He didn’t always use the people we may have chosen—just look at King David.

There is constant debate about whether a Christian is obligated to vote. While Scripture doesn’t directly answer the question, the Bible does instruct Christians to do what is right and just (Proverbs 21:3). Also, James 4:17 tells us: “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” In Matthew 5, Jesus encourages us to be salt and light and he didn’t exclude the arena of government in this task.

As Christians, we should let our voice be heard through our vote. While no person on the ballot is without sin, there are those who will be more likely to carry out the will of God. Christians must participate in the great freedom to vote that has been given to us by the shedding of the blood of patriots before us.
