DHS Sec. Markwayne Mullin Is on Target With Investigating ERIC—Why It Matters
The Left has been abusing DMV voter registration data to boost election turnout for years. Restoration News was one of the first to expose the problem—we're honored to be cited by DHS.
The key to trustworthy elections is clean voter rolls. Both sides of the political aisle know this, but only conservatives have taken voter roll maintenance seriously—while the Left mines for votes. No one knows this better than Homeland Security Sec. Markwayne Mullin, whose recent open letter asks newly confirmed Attorney General Todd Blanche to investigate two leftist groups using the illusion of election security to boost Democrat turnout.
The groups in question: the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) and the related Center for Election Innovation and Research (CEIR), both of which may have violated federal law in mishandling voter records.
"Marketed as a voter list maintenance organization," Sec. Mullin says, citing a 2023 Restoration News report, "ERIC exposes millions of citizens' sensitive private data to unknown contractors, subcontractors, and agents of ERIC—potentially in violation of the [Driver's Privacy Protection Act]." Much of that data makes its way to CEIR, a partisan lobbying group that shares a common founder with the supposedly nonpartisan ERIC.
And here's the kicker, Sec. Mullin writes: "This category of data regarding potential voters is incredibly valuable to political parties and campaigns."
Bingo.
How We Got Here
- Political data is the fuel for modern campaigns. The party that can identify, register, and activate its likely voters first and fastest wins the race.
- But sensitive voter data is protected behind layers of privacy laws that few organizations and individuals may legally access.
- ERIC was the Left's solution—a nonprofit established by a leftist lawyer, David Becker, to access the private information of more than 200 million Americans in dozens of states, information that can be used to identify Democrat-leaning voters and feed them into the Left's get-out-the-vote machine.
- Becker also founded CEIR, a partisan lobbying organization heavily funded by Mark Zuckerberg to boost voter participation in the 2020 election in blue areas. Restoration News was the first to uncover a direct data-sharing agreement between ERIC and CEIR, which may violate federal law.
What It Means for You
- Voter rolls are the ticket to secure elections. They're also a goldmine for political campaigns. If we don't keep our rolls clean and secure from partisan organizations like ERIC and CEIR, Americans will never be able to trust election outcomes again.
- President Trump has taken swift measures to stop illegal voting and ensure states follow the law. The Department of Homeland Security and Justice Department are responsible for plugging holes that give one party an unfair advantage—and we're seeing that commitment in real time.
- None of this would be possible if Democrats were in charge. For decades, Democrat politicians have shown they're committed to seizing political power above everything else—even if it means violating trust in election systems. A Kamala Harris administration would not be investigating ERIC and CEIR… and neither will any future Democrat administration.
The Bottom Line
Restoration News congratulates the Homeland Security Secretary and Attorney General for taking this threat seriously, and we're deeply honored to play our part in exposing the problem. Get the voter rolls right and many of the country's election integrity issues will swiftly follow.
