Big Majorities Support Finishing the Wall, Deporting Illegal Aliens
The tide has turned against the Left’s open borders decisively—and perhaps permanently
Historic majorities of Americans say they want President-elect Trump to finish the border wall with Mexico and deport huge numbers of illegal aliens, according to new polling from Steve Cortes’ League of American Workers. In the case of building the wall, that includes 58% of Independents, 88% of Republicans, and—most shockingly—39% of Democrats.
Most amazingly, it also includes 37 percent of Americans who voted for Kamala Harris in November.
Broken down by age, building the wall is backed by 61% of seniors, 64% of those age 45–64, 63% of those age 25–44, and 56% of Gen Z (age 18–24).
Democrats fought building the wall tooth and nail during President Trump’s first term in office. Still, he managed to build 700 miles after declaring a national emergency in 2019—which Joe Biden promptly ended on his first day in office, calling it “a waste of money” and “not a serious policy solution.” Experts estimate finishing the border wall would cost between $15 and $25 million, far less than the $150 billion the U.S. spent on illegal immigration in 2023, or the $175 billion we’ve given to Ukraine to secure its own borders from foreign invaders since 2022.
“It shall be the policy of my Administration that no more American taxpayer dollars be diverted to construct a border wall,” Biden declared.

Taking Out the Trash
But stemming the tide of illegal aliens is only half the battle. When it comes to mass deportation of those already in the country illegally, Trump enjoys the historically high support of 58% of Americans, including 57% of Independents, 85% of Republicans, and even 31% of Democrats. Nearly one-third of Harris voters (29%) support mass deportations.
Trump’s plan is supported by 55% of seniors, 62% of those age 45–64, and 59% of those age 25–44. Interestingly, while a near-majority of 48% of Gen Z respondents support the plan, just 44% say they oppose it.

Trump has already indicated he will declare a state of national emergency to free up military assets, possibly including the National Guard, to assist in the deportation plan at the border. Much of the work deporting known criminal aliens will depend on help from local police. Texas has already offered the incoming administration upwards of 1,400 acres to build a deportation facility, calling the plan “Jocelyn’s Initiative” after the 12-year-old Houston girl, Jocelyn Nungaray, who was brutally raped and murdered by two Venezuelan illegal aliens.
Vivek Ramaswamy, co-head of the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has also said they’ll cut all government funding to sanctuary cities to encourage self-deportation. Trump also plans to end birthright citizenship for the children of illegal aliens born in the U.S.
He could go so much further. Currently, E-Verify is only mandatory in 4 states—Alabama, Arizona, Mississippi, and Tennessee—and in partial use in 22 states. Yet the program is highly effective at cutting illegal immigration by making it extremely difficult for migrants to find work—and cease taking jobs from Americans. In states where it’s been used universally, illegal immigration fell by as much as 50 percent.
Trump has the guts and the political mandate to make it happen. What conservatives must expect is the Left to turn its smear machine up to 11 the first time a Hispanic grandmother is deported. If the MAGA movement is serious about ridding the country of the roughly 16 million illegal aliens living here, they need to prepare for the worst from the Left.
He’ll have one shot at pulling it off. Knowing Donald Trump, he’ll do it in style.
