NEW REPORT: Abortion is Skyrocketing in America Due to the Abortion Pill
Chemical abortion is contributing to more than a million abortion deaths each year, the highest in 14 years.
A brand-new report by Restoration of America Foundation (ROAF) says the era of abortion-in-decline is officially over, thanks to the cheap and widely accessible abortion pill.

That’s driven by the proliferation of mifepristone, the generic name for the abortion pill. Its popularity has exploded in the past half-decade thanks to a 2021 Biden administration decision allowing retailers to mail the pill to purchasers.
The result? A rapidly growing, illegal market for at-home abortions operating under the euphemism “telehealth.”
“The explosion of DIY, mail-order chemical abortions is responsible for the surge in abortions we’re seeing across America,” ROAF founder and president Doug Truax said in a press release. “The Trump administration must act swiftly to reinstate the in-person dispensing requirement for mifepristone that the Biden FDA recklessly abandoned.”
Mifepristone kills the fetus by blocking the flow of progesterone, a hormone essential to development. It’s typically followed 24–48 hours later with a second drug: Misoprostol, which induces contractions to expel the dead fetus.
When the drug was first approved for sale in the United States in September 2000, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) required three in-person doctor visits before obtaining the pills.
But in 2020, ROAF points out, “abortion activists seized on the COVID-19 pandemic to begin the process of allowing abortionists to send mifepristone by mail to expectant mothers.” That culminated in a 2021 decision by the Biden FDA to suspend the in-person dispensing requirement, inaugurating a new era of mail-in abortions.
This development has proven deadly for women who take the drug.
An ROAF study from April 2025 found that nearly 11 percent of women who ingested mifepristone from 2017–2023 experienced a serious adverse health event, including sepsis, blood transfusion, hospitalization, infection, hemorrhage, uterine rupture, ruptured ectopic pregnancy, and even death.
Among those without major medical complications, 85 percent still reported nausea, fever, chills, vomiting, headaches, or diarrhea.
