Abigail Spanberger Embraces "Grace Wetpants" at Pridefest
Governor Youngkin tried to protect girls’ sports and private spaces. Spanberger has pulled the plug and fully embraced the extremist trans agenda.
Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger tried hard to sell herself as a moderate on the campaign trail in 2025, and voters bought it. Now she’s proving to the world that moderate Democrats no longer exist. She refused to tell voters her stance on men in women’s sports and private spaces, and now that she’s in office, she has come out of the closet to embrace a pro-trans extremist agenda.
In 2025, former Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R), initiated a Virginia Board of Health regulation to prevent "biological males from participating in organized female-only athletic teams and competitions in Virginia, and to prevent biological males from using designated female spaces where females are likely to be in any state of undress."
In late July 2026, Spanberger quietly directed the Board of Health to remove this regulatory action.
Spanberger no longer hides her pro-trans activist agenda that, as a candidate, she had kept hidden. She fully embraces it, smut and all.
Spanberger Out of the Closet
- On September 13th, Spanberger spoke at Virginia Pridefest where she proudly announced her decision to rescind Youngkin’s protections on girls’ sports and private spaces.
- At the event, Spanberger appeared in a photo with drag performer "Grace Wetpants" who refers to his shows as the "sluttiest sluts Richmond has to offer." When asked how he came up with his stage name, he said it’s a play on “grey sweatpants” and further explained, "'Wetpants' is funny on its own, but then you put Grace in front of it, and it’s 'Grey Sweatpants,' and you just think about a man’s bulge swinging around in a pair of grey sweatpants. And it gets you all wet."
- Spanberger told the Pridefest crowd how much the story of one trans-girl had moved her, saying, “I burst into tears because of the fact that I want to make members of the LGBTQ+ community know that you have a governor that values your community.”
- In March, Spanberger posted on social media celebrating Trans Day of Visibility, proclaiming, “We will continue to recognize and protect the rights of trans Virginians who contribute to our communities. In Virginia, we recognize the bravery it can take to be yourself.”

What’s Next
The Youngkin administration also adopted model policies in 2023 requiring Virginia public schools to keep boys out of girls’ locker rooms and bathrooms. The same policies protect students and employees from being forced to use pronouns that do not match biological sex, and they stop schools from hiding gender-identity issues from parents.
A Spanberger-appointed Department of Education can change those rules. Because the issue is so divisive, she will likely wait until after the November election before pushing a more trans-affirming agenda in schools.
Spanberger's Pridefest remarks underline that the moderate persona she ran on in 2025 was a campaign strategy, not a governing philosophy. Virginia parents and voters who believed her promises of centrism now have a clearer picture of where she actually stands on parental rights and protecting girls’ sports and private spaces. Parents beware—after November, Spanberger will likely pull more out of her closet.
