Top 10 Woke Leaders of the Military to Fire on Day One
To keep America safe the military must focus on warfighting and unity, not woke ideology and division.
The military has become a cesspool for woke social justice and LGBT ideology that has clearly impacted recruitment and readiness. Since 1997, the United States military’s active-duty membership has declined 39 percent. In 2022 the Army missed its recruiting goal by an astounding 25 percent. A 2023 survey of Navy sailors shows a significant reduction in morale since 2019, but stress and burnout levels have severely increased.
Russia and China most certainly approve of what’s happening in America’s military that is pushing woke ideology over military preparedness. Clearly, woke leadership actively harms national security and the new Trump administration must focus on cleaning house.

These are the top 10 leaders of the military causing harm. Trump must relieve them of duty as soon as he assumes office.
- General Lloyd Austin, Secretary of Defense
This one is obvious. As the guy in charge, he allowed everything in this article under his watch. Going AWOL was bad enough, but the most important reason he should be discharged is his decision to abruptly withdraw from Afghanistan that led to the deaths of 13 U.S. servicemembers.
- General Charles Brown, Jr., Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff
Brown’s primary focus is on diversity rather than warfighting. His focus on race and identity based hiring disqualifies him from future service. He once stated: "You can't let it just be happenstance that brings in diversity, whether it be race, gender, ethnic background, sexual orientation or socio background."
The American Accountability Foundation pointed out that in a 2021 PBS News Hour broadcast, Gen. Brown said the military needs to break up the “white boys club.” He also told People Magazine in 2021 that “we’ve got to closely manage our diverse populations…to make sure their development and opportunities aren’t happening by luck.” In a 2022 memo, Brown demanded that racial and gender quotas be met in the Air Force.
- Admiral Joanna Nunan, Superintendent, United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA)
Nunan’s background as the head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Coast Guard Academy certainly influenced Sec. Pete Buttigieg to hire her as the Superintendent. The attacks against Christians and straight white males that have taken place at the Academy under her leadership are abhorrent and she must be removed. In addition, her focus on DEI rather than academics and infrastructure have caused a decline in recruitment and retention. Restoration News detailed the wokeness at USMMA in a previous article.
- Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland, Superintendent, United States Military Academy at West Point
Gilland took over as the leader of West Point in June 2022 and continued down the same woke path as the previous Superintendent.
USMA has an unsettling focus on race pushed through their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion office, that has suddenly changed its name to the Office of Engagement and Retention. In 2023, a lawsuit was filed against West Point for blatant race-based admissions practices.
West Point has a Diversity and Inclusion minor that includes courses such as “Topics in Gender History.” Other topics discussed in this minor are “The Evolution of Cross-Dressing in the Military and Gender norms” and “Deconstructing Patriotism.” Students can also participate in a “Spectrum Club”—a group designated solely based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
In 2023 West Point hosted a diversity and inclusion conference that included a session on “unconscious bias and micro-inequities.” Leaders instructed attendees to “get comfortable with being uncomfortable.”
Perhaps most egregious, Gilland approved dropping the “Duty, Honor, Country” motto from West Point’s mission statement.
- Lt. Gen. Stephen Whiting, Commander, U.S. Space Command
Whiting is responsible for the unjust firing of Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier who spoke out against Marxist ideologies in the military.

Whiting received a strong rebuke from a military judge in another case for violating the constitutional rights to a fair trial for a serviceman.
- Col. Michelle Nash, Commandant of the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI).
This entire command should be eliminated because it has become the DEI unit of the military.
DEOMI focuses on DEI initiatives such as pride month. In fact, they have an entire webpage providing resources for how military commands can promote LGBTQ+ observances. They even put together a presentation on the topic that can be used for indoctrination across the entire military.
DEOMI recently praised the Air Force for creating a pride month patch that was permitted to be worn on uniforms. After the elimination of this DEOMI command, someone should locate the leader who approved that Air Force patch and fire him or her also.
On June 20th of this year, DEOMI made a social media post praising far left activist Angela Davis who proudly proclaims herself a “lifelong communist.”
It appears DEOMI morphed from the Equal Employment Opportunity office into the woke Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion machine for the entire U.S. military.
- Ashish Vazirani, Acting Deputy of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness.
Vazirani has oversight of Department of Defense Personnel and promotes LGBTQ activism like that promoted by DEOMI. Not only has he permitted these DEI policies, but he has also advocated for them.
- Kathleen Hicks, Deputy Secretary of Defense
Hicks advocates for transgender and nonbinary servicemembers and promotes cultural change in the military through Pride events. In 2022 Hicks declared that the military must have “unconscious bias” training in order to have warfighting success and forced DEI training on the military.
- Carlos Del Toro, Secretary of the Navy
Del Toro allowed a drag queen to be a part of the Navy’s “digital ambassador” program. The Naval Sea Lift Command still has the servicemember’s bio on its website promoting his side job as a drag queen named Harpy Daniels. He has even performed on ships as part of military sanctioned events and poses on social media in his uniform promoting being a drag queen.
- Marianne Malizia, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force.
Malizia leads the Air Force’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion. In a handout from January 27, 2023, the Air Force “Barrier Analysis Working Group” advocates employment and advancement for specific racial groups. Malazia claims that diversity and inclusion improves “cohesion and morale” in the military. In a May 2024 memo, Malizia advocated for servicemembers to celebrate Pride Month and honors the activists who paved the way for a more “equitable military.”
President Trump must make examples of these leaders to set the tone of his next administration. The United States military must rid itself of these woke leaders who divert focus from training warfighters to be the world’s most powerful force, and toward social justice. Peace through strength works. The current stance of peace through weakness has already produced disastrous results.
