Gavin Newsom’s Latest Gun Grab: Banning Glocks for Everyone (Except Criminals)
The California governor continues to pioneer unconstitutional firearm laws in his failing state with legislation to ban the sale and transfer of Glock pistols.
In early October, Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an unprecedented firearm restriction into law—seemingly waging war on all Glock owners.
The bill (AB 1127) veers from traditional gun control measures that regulate specific features and instead seeks to eliminate an entire class of firearms Democrats believe can be easily misused. While Newsom and supporting gun control groups claim the ban is designed to curtail the on-the-fly creation of automatic weapons—which they argue is easiest to do with Glocks—Second Amendment groups say the law violates the Constitution.
The legislation is likely to be ineffective at curbing "gun violence" because it assumes that criminals, the ones using "auto sears" to create automatic firearms, will comply with the law. An auto sear is a device, often 3D-printed, that allows a firearm to rapidly fire multiple rounds with a single trigger squeeze.

After Newsom signed the law, numerous Second Amendment groups filed a lawsuit alleging the law violates Supreme Court precedent that restricts gun control laws from banning "common" arms. The suit was filed by the NRA, Firearms Policy Coalition, Second Amendment Foundation, and Poway Weapons and Gear.
"Our message to Governor Gavin Newsom is simple: we will see you in court. This flagrant violation of rights cannot, and will not, go unchecked," said NRA-ILA executive director John Commerford.
Though the law claims to curb "gun violence," it will only embolden criminals while leaving law abiding Americans out to dry. The pro-gun control lobby continually assures Americans that gun control laws are effective, but they ignore FBI data that proves their methods are targeting the wrong people.
A 2019 FBI study found that only seven percent of crimes involving a firearm were committed with a legally purchased gun. Half of offenders had stolen the weapon, and 43 percent acquired it from black market or underground sources.

The California Way
California is the Left’s crown jewel when it comes to restrictive gun control measures—and the recent handgun ban is only the cherry on top.
The state requires a Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) just to purchase any firearm, mandates a 10-day waiting period and dealer-mediated private transfers, and enforces strict rules on handguns—including a roster of models certified for sale. The state further prohibits many semi-automatic firearms based on cosmetic features and magazine capacity.
Additionally, Everytown, a radical gun control activist group, rates California as number one in the country for gun laws (read: Number one in violating the Constitution).
The state continually imposes unconstitutional firearm laws, but it also has a track record of impeding the rights of gun owners to carry firearms. In early 2025, President Donald Trump sued the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office after an investigation showed the office was purposely slowing down the concealed carry process.
"The Second Amendment protects the fundamental constitutional right of law-abiding citizens to bear arms," said Attorney General Pam Bondi. "Los Angeles County may not like that right, but the Constitution does not allow them to infringe upon it."
The lawsuit alleged that only two of 8,000 concealed carry applications were approved by the department since March.

Keep 'California Crazy' in California
As Gavin Newsom continues to hint at a presidential run in 2028, it is important for Americans to understand the disastrous policies he has implemented in California. In many ways, California has been the breeding ground for gun control legislation for years—slowly spreading across the country to other blue states.
It is imperative that law-abiding Americans take a stand against these authoritarian measures and safeguard constitutional rights for years to come.
