EXCLUSIVE: Moms For Liberty Resisting Extreme Trans Bill in Blue Colorado
Parents who don’t toe the line set by anti-family transgender activists could lose custody of their children, per a new Democrat bill in the Colorado legislature.
Colorado parents who defend their children against the radical transgender agenda are in Democrats' crosshairs, with a proposed bill on track to become law. But pro-family groups are pushing back.
Moms For Liberty, a parental rights advocacy nonprofit, is hosting a townhall next week on Thursday, May 1, in Aurora, Colorado where parents can get their questions answered and their voices heard about the dangerous bill Democrats are considering.
House Bill 25-1312, also known as the “Kelly Loving Act,” has already passed the Colorado House and awaits action in the state Senate. The bill is named in honor of 40-year-old transgender men who died in the Club Q mass shooting in 2022. Parental rights activists have expressed concern that the bill would set a “troubling precedent” by categorizing “deadnaming” and “misgendering” as forms of coercion in custody disputes. The “Kelly Loving Act” would also enable government officials to revoke custody from parents who are accused of misgendering their children.
The bill also involves significant changes to the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA), redefining certain terminology the transgender community views as discriminatory and subjecting the use of such terms to penalties enforced through the Colorado Civil Rights Division.
Moms for Liberty sees far-reaching implications for schools, families, and parental rights if Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) signs the transgender bill into law. Parents who call their child by the "wrong name" or decline to use the "preferred" pronouns set by transgender activists could be held liable—and even lose custody of their child.
Opponents of the “Kelly Loving Act” point to disconcerting examples how similar legislation greatly diluted parental rights in Canada and California. In one case, a Canadian father was imprisoned for six months and fined $30,000 for supposedly "misgendering" his teenage daughter. California has put its own stamp on transgender activism with Assembly Bill 1995, which prohibits school districts from implementing policies that require teachers or administrators to tell parents when a student changes their gender identity.
The townhall will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30.
