Ending the Assault on West Point & Our Military Service Academies
The Left's corruption of the military even extends to West Point, Annapolis, the war colleges, and beyond. Here's what we're doing to fix it.
America's five military service academies should produce warfighters, not political activists. We rely on them to train the next generation of officers who will lead the U.S. into dominance in the 21st century.
The U.S. Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) at Annapolis, the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) at Colorado Springs, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) at Kings Point, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) at New London must be the best military leadership institutions in the world.
These and other programs—such as military war colleges that provide graduate level and continuing education programs to servicemembers—must also be free of ideological anti-American indoctrination.
Yet decades of DEI and social justice activism have diluted their mission and threatened military readiness—a problem few civilians are aware of. Restoration of America is exposing what's happening inside these institutions and working to restore their focus on leadership, discipline, and winning wars.
The Return of Merit
Since at least 2021, service academies have lowered admissions standards to accommodate identity-based race and gender goals. USNA, for example, told applicants their standardized test scores counted as a consequential part of admissions determination. Yet Restoration News uncovered 2023 court evidence that proves otherwise. Documents reveal USNA did not weight standardized test scores at all in their admissions process for applicants for the classes of 2025–2028. A parent of one of those applicants told Restoration News:
My son worked hard in high school to do everything he could to fulfill his dream of attending the Naval Academy, including achieving a high SAT score. To now find out that USNA didn't even use his SAT scores as a factor when comparing applicants for admission and that he was most likely rejected because of his gender and skin color is sickening.
USNA's class of 2027 had a minority representation of over 44 percent, up from 34 percent in 2020. In contrast, USMMA reported a much lower 25 percent minority student acceptance rate in the same year. Additional documents reviewed by Restoration News prove that USNA set race and gender based demographic goals for their applicants.
Fortunately, War Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered an end to these racist policies and merit is now the required standard for admissions in America's service academies.
The Social Justice Leaders Behind the Corruption
We're also exposing leftist professors indoctrinating these institutions.
The president of the Naval War College (NWC), Rear Admiral Daryl Walker, was one of the first woke officers featured on RestoretheMilitary.com. Walker was previously the diversity director for the Naval Air Forces. Just after President Trump took office and issued executive orders banning DEI and transgender servicemembers, Walker emailed the war college staff, writing: "It is clear to me that all of the recent policy changes that have occurred in the past few weeks, many on our team are feeling the impact in different ways. That is understandable, given the variety of positions, roles, and perspectives we have here on campus."
An audit of NWC employees should be conducted by the Chief of Naval Operations—the next in command. We've found multiple employees pushing ideologies in opposition of the directives of the President and Secretary of War.
Frank Sobchak, an associate professor at NWC and adjunct professor at the Joint Special Operations University proudly announced on social media that he was featured on our Restore The Military site. Sobchak said, "I made the enemies of MAGA "woke" list and will forever wear it like a badge of honor."

Sobchak posted multiple anti-Trump sentiments on social media. He claimed the America First movement is a cult and is "selfish, xenophobic, hateful, and cruel," and has a great bottle of champagne waiting for the day Trump dies. Sobchak also authored an article suggesting President Trump could issue unlawful orders and provided instructions to military members on what-if scenarios.
NWC Dean of Academics, Doyle Hodges, claimed "white nationalism" is a major problem in the military: "Bureaucracies excel at establishing procedures, policies, and pathways for coordination—exactly the things that are needed to address the problem of violent domestic extremism in an enduring way rather than through a short-term, ad hoc fix like a task force."
The NWC Dean of Leadership and Ethics, Jeffrey Macris, proudly displayed a diversity and inclusion certificate from Cornell on his bio until we publicized him on RestoretheMilitary.com. Macris was also the deputy director of the Stockdale center that implemented DEI curriculum at the Naval Academy. The curriculum had students watch a video on "Conversations in Conscientious Leadership which discussed "intentionally engaging in uncomfortable conversations" on race.
The service academies aren't immune from woke leaders and professors either. Sec. Hegseth made the right move by removing the former Naval Academy Superintendent and replacing her with a merit focused warfighter—Marine Lt. General Michael Borgschulte. Yet top leaders at West Point who pushed a DEI agenda remain. Superintendent LG Steven Gilland hosted and directed multiple West Point DEI conferences, including West Point's biggest-ever DEI conference, at which he described diversity in terms of "how important and how critical it is not only to our U.S. Military Academy, to our military, but especially to our nation." He also admitted to Congress that USMA had race-based composition goals. USMA's Dean of the Academic Board, BG Shane Reeves, embedded critical race theory and studies on "whiteness" directly into the core academic curriculum. Both top leaders should be relieved of their duties at West Point.
While the Trump administration has made great strides in eliminating social justice warriors from the military, more must be done.
Who Provides Oversight?
Each service academy officially has federal oversight through a board of visitors (BOV) whose members include presidential appointees and members of Congress. These BOVs are tasked with visiting the academies and inquiring into the state of affairs such as curriculum, instruction, fiscal affairs, and more. They're also required to submit written reports of their reviews, actions, and recommendations to the President and House and Senate Armed Services committees.
We've found these past reports either lack substance or weren't even submitted as required.
Restoration of America has become a leading watchdog of the service academies by attending and reporting on BOV meetings. We've submitted public comments and proposed concrete solutions to issues identified across the academies. Over the past year, many BOVs have begun to more seriously exercise their oversight responsibilities instead of serving as a rubber stamp for academy leadership. While meaningful progress is being made, more work remains—and we're reporting it at Restoration-News.com.
America's service academies and professional military education institutions shape the leaders who will fight and win the nation's future wars. They cannot be compromised by ideological agendas, lowered standards, or leaders who place politics above duty.
We won't stop exposing abuses, demanding accountability, and advocating for merit, discipline, and warfighting excellence across the military education system. The American people deserve a military led by the best—selected by merit, trained to win, and loyal to the Constitution.
