Year 1 of Trump 2.0 treated us to an overwhelming number of headlines as the America First movement worked feverishly to drain the Swamp. President Donald Trump's new team hit the ground running, demonstrating his significant pre-election work assembling and assigning the right people to different cleanup tasks. One of his primary areas of focus centered on ending wasteful spending on green energy, permanently shifting federal policy away from climate change, and unleashing reliable domestic energy sources.

If you thought this would lead to the professional Left finding ways to work with the Trump administration to advance American interests, you don't know progressives very well.

As Trump 2.0 advances a pro-energy, pro-prosperity, and pro-America environmental agenda, the climate cultists find themselves in freefall. Their belief in scientism—the quasi-religious rule by "experts" who accept no debate over "settled science"—has been shaken by the precipitous collision of facts with abrupt policy changes.

This collision has produced some chaotic results. 2025 was marked by two competing trends in green activism: The desperate clinging to climate extremism and the advancement of conventional energy, both in America and worldwide. The Trump plan involves abandoning the bottomless pit of wasteful green subsidies to generate revenue, establish energy independence, lower prices, and promote domestic job growth.

As we get ready for Year 2 of Trump 2.0, let's take a moment to appreciate the craziest climate stories of 2025, the return of common sense, and America's repositioning to reach new heights of productivity and prosperity.

Global Warming Goes Back to Its Roots

"There was a Shepherd Boy who tended his sheep at the foot of a mountain near a dark forest. It was lonely for him, so he devised a plan to get a little company. He rushed down towards the village calling out 'Wolf, Wolf,' and the villagers came out to meet him."

On the right side of the political spectrum, a common internet trope involves a list of dire predictions of doom that Mother Nature would visit upon humanity if we didn't immediately adopt global communism. One of the first predictions was offered in 1974, when Time magazine published an article predicting famines due to global cooling. That prediction quickly morphed into global warming, then climate change, then ocean acidification and sea level rise, all of which stubbornly refused to materialize. So, the irony was thick a few months back when scientists devised their latest attempt to incite the panic necessary to precipitate drastic action: Global Cooling, the Sequel.

Apparently, the pending collapse of a major current in the Atlantic Ocean could usher in a new Ice Age, according to a new study. And the boy continues to cry wolf.

Two Nations Go Dark

In April 2025, Spain announced it had achieved a remarkable feat: It powered its entire nation with renewable energy. Less than two weeks later, the entire country experienced a total blackout for the better part of a day. Spain sells a lot of electricity to its neighbor, Portugal, so that nation also lost power. The only reason France and, by extension, the rest of Europe, avoided this kind of instability was that the automated backup systems cut the connection to Spain—otherwise, an entire continent could have plunged into darkness.

As it was, Spain and Portugal, with their combined 60 million residents, spent most of a hot day without air conditioning, mass transit, streetlights, and the power to keep the economy going. Spanish authorities spent months writing a report of excuses meant to mask the real culprit: Renewable energy. Turns out the variability of wind and solar doesn't just make the grid unreliable—it also makes it far more prone to blackouts from power surges. This incident served as a real-time, real-world demonstration that renewable means unreliable.
