Breaking: Will Green Bay Hire This Far Left Group To Consult On Election Integrity?
In an eerie repeat of 2020, the conservative city’s new leftist majority may soon hire a partisan group to “advise” on how to run its elections—and litigate against Trump
A Restoration News exclusive—this is a developing story
Professional leftists and Democrat politicians are once again targeting the key city of Green Bay, Wisconsin, with the goal of controlling election litigation to keep Trump from winning the swing state in November—and only residents can stop them.
At its July 30 meeting, the Green Bay City Council approved a motion to retain outside counsel “to provide litigation support and consultation services . . . regarding election law” for the city attorney, Joanne Bungert, who’s requested outside legal support to prepare for upcoming election lawsuits from the Nov. 2024 presidential election.
Bungert is a former senior attorney for Chicago’s Cook County. She was in her current office when Green Bay outsourced its 2020 election responsibilities to a far-left activist, Michael Spitzer-Rubenstein, a move approved by Democrat Mayor Eric Genrich. In the words of then-Brown County Clerk Sandy Juno, Green Bay “went rogue. . . Green Bay was just on their own” (more on that later).
Now the city looks like it could once more allow partisan operatives to infiltrate its election department and shift litigation in Democrats’ favor, in the (very) likely event Wisconsin’s election results are challenged by the Trump or Kamala Harris campaigns.
Everything hinges on which firm the council decides to hire, and the odds are decidedly in the Democrats’ favor. Bungert has proposed retaining the same set of firms that represented the city after the 2020 election: Law Forward, States United Democracy Center—both partisan litigation groups run by Democrat operatives—and Stafford Rosenbaum, itself closely connected to Law Forward.

Democracy: Rule By Democrats
Restoration News has exposed Law Forward’s deep ties to Democrat groups in Wisconsin… and there’s a lot.
While Law Forward bills itself to Green Bay as a pro-democracy, nonpartisan nonprofit,” it was created in Oct. 2020 to boost Democrats “on redistricting and election litigation”—which included work by its founders to successfully block the Green Party from appearing on Wisconsin’s 2020 ballot.
To date, it’s been involved in dozens of lawsuits—each designed to help Democrats win control of the battleground state.
Law Forward was behind the January Supreme Court decision to toss Wisconsin’s legislative maps—the result of a years-long compromise between legislative Republicans and Democrat Gov. Tony Evers—made possible by Democrats’ 4–3 takeover of the high court with Janet Protsiewicz’s election last year.
Law Forward filed that lawsuit just one day after Protasiewicz took office. She should have recused herself from the decision, given her biased comments on the campaign trail, but refused to. Now the maps are expected to help Democrats seize control of the legislature in November, their first shot in more than a decade.
In 2022, Law Forward filed an appeal to keep drop boxes for mass mail-in balloting, something the state supreme court ruled was unconstitutional in July 2022… until the Protasiewicz majority magically decided drop boxes are actually constitutional last month.
The group’s founders are a pair of Democratic lawyers: Doug Poland and Jeff Mandell, who were backed by former Sen. Russ Feingold (D), ex-Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton (D), and Ian Bassin, who heads the anti-Trump litigation group Protect Democracy. Shortly before launching Law Forward, Mandell and Poland were engaged in a failed U.S. Supreme Court lawsuit to allow Wisconsin officials to count absentee ballots that arrived after Election Day 2020.
Mandell has also advanced the Left’s ridiculous 2020 “fraudulent electors” smear, pretending that it’s against the law for parties to have contingent electors in contested elections (as happened in 1960).
Poland and Mandell are partners at Stafford Rosenbaum, one of the other groups for hire in Green Bay. Poland himself has directly represented Tony Evers. And Law Forward’s director, Nicole Safar, is a former Evers staffer who previously ran advocacy for Planned Parenthood Wisconsin and headed the leftist group ProgressNow, which advised operatives on getting out the Democratic vote ahead of Protasiewicz’s election.
Law Forward itself is heavily funded by out-of-state “dark money” groups, including the multi-billion-dollar Arabella Advisors machine, a New York-based foundation, and the Chicago-based Joyce Foundation, whose board once included Barack Obama and Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett.
In 2021, it received another $250,000 from America Votes, one of the Left’s top get-out-the-vote groups for juicing Democratic turnout. Not surprisingly, Law Forward is closely allied with Stacey Abrams’ Fair Fight Action and Protect Democracy, which accuse conservatives of “voter suppression” and “seiz[ing] . . . control over election results.”

Lawfare from the Swamp
Also for hire is the D.C.-based States United Democracy Center (SUDC), founded in 2020 as the “Voter Protection Program” by Obama “ethics czar” Norm Eisen, a long-time lawyer for far-left groups like David Brock’s CREW.
Far from being nonpartisan, SUDC praised Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s absurd indictment of Trump last year.
SUDC was included in Time’s infamous Feb. 2021 article, “The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election,” for recruiting operatives to defeat President Trump’s legal challenges. One of its accomplishments: the legal memo arguing Vice President Mike Pence had no constitutional authority to reject state elector slates. It similarly opposed election audits in Wisconsin and Arizona, calling them “scam election review attempts.”
In Congress, SUDC championed Nancy Pelosi’s “For the People Act” (HR 1), which would’ve codified all the Left’s favorite election “reforms” to guarantee a permanent Democrat majority in Washington. Not surprisingly, it’s allied with the radical Brennan Center for Justice, which engineered many of HR 1’s worst ideas.
SUDC is staffed and led by hardcore Democrats and at least two NeverTrump Republicans, disgraced ex-RNC Chair Michael Steele and former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge. Other officials include ex-Massachusetts Deputy Attorney General Joanna Lydgate, ex-Montana Gov. Steve Bullock (D), and Obama Homeland Security Sec. Janet Napolitano.
And like Law Forward, it’s heavily funded by the Arabella Advisors network, plus grants from the Big Tech Hewlett and Packard Foundations.

Captured By the Left
Here’s the kicker: This scheme would be impossible if the Left hadn’t seized a majority on the council in April.
Brown County, which encompasses Green Bay, has voted Republican in all but 2 elections since 1968. But Green Bay’s municipal election in April 2024 gave Democrats 1-seat control of the (officially nonpartisan) city council and mayor’s office.
The local Democratic Party was quick to boast that the body had “flipped to a progressive, pro-democracy majority” that refutes “Trump’s lies [and] conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.” Now they’re acting with their newfound power to stop Republicans from winning this important county in 2024.
“How are we telling our residents to believe in this election if we’re going to start it out this way?” asked Jennifer Grant, a conservative councilmember. Good question, given recent history.

Targeting Green Bay
This writer was the first to expose how Green Bay—and all of Wisconsin—was blanketed with $10 million in “Zuck bucks,” grants from tech billionaire Mark Zuckerberg through a Chicago intermediary, the Center for Tech and Civic Life. In fact, Wisconsin was where the Zuck bucks scheme began before spreading nationwide, boosting Democratic turnout and bankrolling drop boxes in precisely the locations Joe Biden needed to eke out a victory against Trump.
Tony Evers vetoed efforts to ban private funding for elections not once, but twice. It took Wisconsin voters to finally outlaw Zuck bucks in a landslide in April 2024… but not before leftists pumped $800,000 into Milwaukee in private, unaccountable money from an unknown donor.
Green Bay received $1.6 million in Zuck bucks, one of the top recipients statewide. At the same time, emails show Mayor Eric Genrich usurped the city clerk’s authority to oversee elections by letting a Zuckerberg-funded “grant team” take over counting ballots in violation of state law, according to experts.
That team was headed by ex-Obama field organizer Michael Spitzer-Rubenstein, in 2020 working as an operative with the National Vote at Home Institute, itself a Center for Tech and Civic Life partner. The institute, which lobbies for all-mail elections, was founded with money from the postal workers’ union; its head in 2020, Amber McReynolds, was rewarded for her service to Biden with a position on the Postal Service oversight board, crucial to the Left’s plan of expanding vote-by-mail nationwide.
Spitzer-Rubenstein reportedly controlled four of the five keys to the room where ballots were stored and counted, had access to absentee ballots days before the 2020 election, and asked the county clerk if he and his team could “cure” faulty absentee ballots as they’d done in Milwaukee.
Despite public outcry and demand-after-demand for investigation, the Left got away with the scheme scot-free.
But unlike in 2020, Green Bay residents have a chance to stop this plot before it fully hatches—if they have the courage to act now. Contact your alderman and tell them to hire trustworthy, neutral experts to represent all Green Bay residents—not far-left partisans from the Swamp.
